What a great bunch of volunteers and a fantastic day of drills on Sunday at Penshurst!

The day was led by Instructor Lee Evans and included an EV car fire, harvester fire, 3 car motor vehicle accident involving fire and suspicious circumstances, a skip fire as well as a car fire extending to structure fire.

These two brigades worked hard, shared knowledge, learnt new skills and their camaraderie was top notch. Everyone happily jumped in to have a go at any task!

Thanks Branxholme & Ardachy! We can’t wait to have you back again soon.

It was a hive of activity at Penshurst on the weekend with plenty of groups out on the training ground as well as the D5 - HSE Forum taking place.

A great opportunity for members from across the district in safety roles to gather together and discuss, give feedback and learn the latest information from the organisation.

🚒WOODFORD & KOROIT HOT FIRE DRILLS 🚒

A cold and wet day on Sunday didn’t stop the Woodford Fire Brigade and Koroit Fire Brigade members from a great day of skill refreshing.

The day was led by Instructor Lee Evans and included a wide range of drills from a harvester fire to a 3 car motor vehicle accident to a structure fire. The brigades even got to test out our latest addition to the PAD - an EV and charger prop. This was a great addition of complexity which the members hadn’t come across before. It was fantastic to see all members jumping forward to have a go at a range of different skills including taking on the incident controller role.

Well done Woodford & Koroit on a great day! 👏👏

🔥 D7 - GEELONG WEST & STONEHAVEN HOT FIRE DRILLS 🚒

A big weekend for the members from Geelong West & Stonehaven Fire Brigades with a day filled with complex scenarios at Penshurst.

The day was led by Vol Instructor Stephen Robertson where members were put through their paces with a structure fire, car under carport fire extending to structure, fuel loading dock fire, gas loading dock fire extending to gas bullet, grass and scrub fire and much more!

A huge day for these legends filled with breathing apparatus, complex thinking on the spot, using items such as our quick cut gate and running fuel drain for knowledge upskilling and so much more!

🔥D06 RESPOND TO ISOLATED STRUCTURE FIRE 🔥

Members from Apollo Bay, Wye River, Forrest, Birregurra and Kennedy’s Creek recently completed their ‘Low Structure’ qualification with Vol Instructor Geoff Schmidt here at Penshurst.

A fantastic day of practical drills to complete their course where members walked away confident, full of knowledge and ready to take their skills back to their brigades.

Well done to all of the legends from Apollo Bay Fire Brigade Fire Brigade River Fire Brigade Birregurra Fire Brigade Creek Fire Brigade for progressing their skills to further protect their communities. 👏👏

Congratulations to the 8 participants who also recieved their ‘Low Structure’ qualification on the weekend.

A weekend filled with forcible entry, car fires and much more!

The Respond to Isolated Structure Fire course gives members key introductory knowledge and skills on initial response and tactics for motor vehicle fires, structure fires in remote areas and much more.

Congratulations to District 5’s newest firefighters who completed their GFF course on the weekend.

The course was led by instructors Mal Anderson and Paul Turner. All participants left with a smile on their face, greater confidence, ready to join their brigades as firefighters. Well done team!
