🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️ Mt Hawthorn Primary School Athletics Carnival 🏅

It was fantastic to see so many students down at Menzies Park today, proudly representing their factions and giving it their all. Despite the cold and less-than-ideal weather, plenty of parents braved the conditions to cheer the kids on and show their support. 👏

A special thank you and acknowledgement to Sports Teachers Anita Putt and Sue Kenny for the incredible work they put into organising today’s carnival. With close to 1,000 students at Mount Hawthorn Primary School, putting together an event of this size is an enormous task.

Anita and Sue also deserve recognition for the decades they have dedicated to teaching sport and encouraging generations of Mt Hawthorn kids to get active, compete and enjoy being part of a team. Your contribution to the school community is enormous. 🙌

A big thank you also goes to the Mount Hawthorn Primary School P&C volunteers, who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep the school ticking over. Their fundraising helps deliver much-needed projects that benefit not only the students, but the wider school community.

One of the things that really stood out to me this morning was seeing many of the same people who volunteer their time at local sporting clubs, including Mt Hawthorn Cardinals JFC ,Mount Hawthorn Basketball ,Floreat Athena and Leederville Cricket Club lending a hand to get everything set up and make the morning run smoothly.

That’s what makes our community so special. ❤️

We have so many people who give their time, often without recognition, simply because they care about our kids, our schools and our local community.

Thank you to every volunteer, teacher, parent and student who helped make today such a great community event.

Honoured to welcome these Vincent residents in becoming Australian citizens at last nights citizenship ceremony. As a child of migrants who themselves went through this ceremony after emigrating from Greece , I fully understand what this moment means to those that gained their citizenship last night.

Many in this group will positively influence our community for years to come whether it be running a small business, volunteering at our local clubs and groups or by being great neighbours that can bring a little bit of culture from their homelands that can help make Australia an even better place to be apart of !

WELCOME to our newest Australian citizens! Last night we welcomed people from Afghanistan, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Egypt, England, France, Germany, India, Iraq, Ireland, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Spain, Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States, Venezuela and Vietnam. One shared humanity, all living in Vincent.

New plans, new chance to have your say 🗣️

The proposed redevelopment of the Leederville car parks at Frame Court and The Avenue has evolved following community feedback.

Because the proposal has changed, we're checking back in with the community to see what you think.

Review the revised business plan and let us know your thoughts before the consultation closes on Monday 22 June.

Some of the ongoing work not seen by the public, the many budget workshops we do that start every January to prepare the next financial years budget. I have to say, the uncertainty of the impact of increased fuel prices and the possibility of a looming recession is seriously exercising our minds.

Happy 110th birthday to Anzac Cottage - the house built in one day to honour a returned soldier, Private John Porter. So lovely to join the Friends of Anzac Cottage, representatives from The Natonal Trust and His Excellency Governor Dawson and Mrs Dawson at the celebrations. 🎂

As part of my commitment to serving our community at the City of Vincent I’ve been completing the WALGA mandatory training required of all new councillors within our first 12 months in office.

These five modules are designed to ensure we fully understand our roles and responsibilities in representing our ratepayers and upholding strong governance standards across local government in Western Australia.

The modules include:

• Module 1 – Understanding Local Government
• Module 2 – Conflicts of Interest
• Module 3 – Serving on Council
• Module 4 – Meeting Procedures
• Module 5 – Understanding Financial Reports and Budgets

Today marks my final session, completing the Meeting Procedures module.

Across the five courses, I’ve had the opportunity to meet some outstanding councillors from across the state. It’s been invaluable hearing how different councils operate, what matters most to their communities, and the distinct challenges faced by rural councils compared with metropolitan ones.

Local government plays a critical role in shaping the places where we live, work and play. Ongoing training and professional development are essential to ensuring we make informed, transparent and responsible decisions on behalf of our community.

Proud to complete this milestone and looking forward to continuing to learn and serve.
