FIFO Families: Share Your Story and Help Others

The Kids Research Institute Australia are creating an online resource to help Australian FIFO families thrive.

FIFO workers, partners, and children are invited to share their experiences in short audio or video recordings (20 seconds to 2 minutes).

Most recordings follow a prepared script, with opportunities to add your own thoughts and experiences.

Your story could help other families feel understood, connected, and supported.

Recordings can be completed at The Kids (Perth Children’s Hospital) or somewhere convenient for you.

FIFO is not just a payslip and a plane ticket.
It's also the person waiting at home who becomes the default parent again.
The partner learning how to reconnect after another swing.
The children counting sleeps, missing loved ones and adjusting to the change each time someone leaves or returns.

The reality is, FIFO affects the whole family.

That does not mean families are not capable. It means they deserve support that reflects the actual life they are living, not the version people assume from the outside.

Both sides of FIFO are real. The career and the family. The opportunity and the cost.

Father’s Day can look a little different in FIFO families. Whether Dad is home or away, every member of the FIFO family is welcome at our Father’s Day play session.

Join us for a relaxed morning of play, FIFO-themed crafts, a dress-up station, light morning tea and time with other families who get the lifestyle.

A chance to celebrate FIFO dads, father figures and the people who keep family life moving.

Babies under 12 months attend free

The venue has fully fenced indoor and outdoor play spaces, so the morning is on whatever the weather brings. Please bring your own coffee or hot drink. It is a nut-free venue.

We’re hosting a special Book Week author reading with mining engineer + mum Kate Harvey, creator of The Little Book of Mining and the Mining Activity Book.

Bring your little miners along for storytime, play and a chance to better understand what Mum or Dad does when they’re away on site. This is a relaxed morning to connect with other FIFO families who truly get it while the kids are entertained in a fully-fenced play space.
