Lastnight we made a heartbreaking choice of saying goodbye to Peaches and put her to rest peacefully.
She was diagnosed with Coccidiosis a week after she arrived in care.
After being on antibiotics, vitamin injections and oral treatment for a week she just couldn't fight anymore. She was weak, tired and just not able to fight anymore. Only a tiny 1.1kg
We want to say thank you to EVH Emergency Vet Hospital, Emerald Acres Animal Rescue Inc. & Rocky Ridge Wildlife Sanctuary for your support and Perth Wildlife Hospital for doing the tests on a Sunday.
So what is it....
An intestinal disease caused by microscopic, single-celled protozoan parasites called coccidia.
It spreads when kangaroos ingest contaminated soil, food, or water containing parasite eggs (oocysts) shed in f***s.
The symptoms are Severe, foul-smelling, dark or bloody diarrhoea, rapid weight loss, lethargy, dehydration, and sudden death.
We can only assume that Peaches had picked up this horrid parasite during the time she was abandoned and found by a member of public, covered in mud and f***s. Incubation period is 4 - 7 days before symptoms appear. So it all kind of aligns. Bounce free lil one, we did the kindest thing for you 🦘🍑🦘

6 days ago we got this little girl from our friends at Emerald Acres Animal Rescue Inc. Peaches was found at the golf course with no mum or mob around. Scared and dehydrated and covered in mud with each heel having some abrasions with blood.
She is only little 1.1kg. So she should still be in her mums pouch. We dont know why this has happened but she is safe now.
She has settled in well with the other 2. Everyday I cleaned another part of her body and today....just look at the utter Cuteness overloaded. She has started trusting us and will poke her head out to see her new sisters. She will drink her bottle and fall asleep listening to my heartbeat 💓

Last week we got a call about a raven stuck in a tree in Mindarie. This poor raven had been hanging upside-down for several hours. Both feet had braided fishing line tangled around its feet, in-between all toes and then tangled around a high branch. This must have been excruciating and terrifying. The kind member of public ( jess )stayed with the raven until we got there.
After assessing the best plan, we decided it would be best to saw the main branch and get the bird as it slowly came down. Some very lovely gentlemen were on a walk helped us. We got the raven down successfully without any issues. Quickly cut all the fishing line and did another assessment. Its legs had atrophied, but still had some movement and foot clenching ability so we brought it home for rehab. Unfortunately the raven passed away within an hour.
Please be responsible if you do go fishing. Take all your line and hooks with you when you leave. If you see some...please pick it up and throw in a bin.

Do you have a garden with snails??? If you do please consider collecting them for us. With spring approaching we will need them for our bobtails that have been in brumation during winter and sick ones coming into care. You can put them in the freezer and arrange with us for collection or drop off.

Craig received a call at 12:45am from fellow rescuer about a roo in shorehaven with broken legs. He went to check with the pin location received from the member of public but could not locate it. He spent almost an hour looking everywhere. Tired and exhausted he returned home. Once the sun came out he returned to the location and found it. Upon checking her injuries ( there were none, except a suspicious hole in her head) he noticed tiny legs and a tail sticking out the pouch.
He quickly grabbed the scissors and had to cut the pouch to get this baby out.
It was icy cold and crying 😢 Straight under his shirt and jacket...skin to skin contact.
Craig called Me to get the emergency kit ready and warmed up for this little one. We weighed him and he was 500grams. Eyes closed, ears still folded over. Once he was stabilised we took him to our pinkie carer
Patricia who specialises in caring for them at such a vulnerable stage. Thank you Patricia for all you do x This little boy will be called Astro, because thats what Craig was doing when he got the call 💕🦘 * some important information about reporting an injured kangaroo. PLEASE STAY WITH/ NEAR THE KANGAROO AT A SAFE DISTANCE. THEY CAN STILL MOVE AROUND EVEN WITH BROKEN LEGS. IT MAKES IT EASIER FOR US TO FIND YOU AND THE KANGAROO. IF YOU MUST LEAVE, PLEASE SEND A PHOTO/PIN DROP OF THE EXACT LOCATION WITH A LANDMARK LIKE A TREE OR SIGN IF YOU HAVE A SHOPPING BAG TIE THAT ON A BUSH WHERE THE KANGAROO IS. ANY HELPFULL INFO GOES A LONG WAY TO SAVE A LIFE.

We've been a bit quiet again lately.....thats because we've been busy settling in with 2 very special little girls.
First we got the sweet girl Kirby. She is a Western grey kangaroo and was a tiny 750grams, only just able to start holding her own body temperature. A few sleepless nights of monitoring her and settling her in. Then a week later we got Gemma, a beautiful girl at 1.1kg. The perfect big sister for Kirby and extra warmth. Gemma was sneaking into Kirbys pouch especially on the really cold nights. They have both settled in well and snuggle up together. We are spending quality time by folding tissues and feeding every 4hrs. If you would like to donate to us for help please feel free to. Joey milk formula is expensive if you would like to buy us a box of tissues please do so. We need a Gajillion 🤣or even laundry detergent, anything helps with raising joeys. We are still doing other rescues behind the scenes and will tag team. Kirby and Gemma are our 9th and 10th joeys that we have raised.

The fledgling dove that had a rough start to life out the nest was released!! Its parents were sitting on the roof watching as their baby returned.
So good to have the member of public there at her home to see them reunite and actually want it back.

This little fledgling has had a shaky start on his first day out the nest.
He flew from the nest in the back yard straight into the sliding door and was a bit stunned. Then a dog him but immediately dropped him. The very kind member of public picked it up and placed it on the brick wall near the tree and observed. She noted that it just wasn't flying and messaged us for advise. Felicia went to check it out and as she approached....it took off. We stood and looked around and noticed the parents watching from thr roof. We though, oh thats great news!! No intervention required. Felicia went back home. After about an hour, another message, the same lady had taken her dogs for a walk across the road in a beautiful park and this baby was just sitting there. Felicia advised her to hold onto it and that she'd come back for an assessment. This bubba had some missing secondary feathers. Thats it. No puncture wounds.He was given some electrolytes and syringe feedings that day. Now look at him...2 days later and he's started to eat tiny seeds.
