It’s already half way done but if you didn’t know July is…

Disability Pride Month 🎉💕

If you can’t come to our club room you can always put in a borrow request for one of our remote loan stations, like the one in the Acesss Department room (UWA Student Guild Access Department )!

I’ve got some descriptions for the library items below (from left to right in the photo).

🐦‍⬛ Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
One of the central POV characters Kaz Brekker is a physically disabled crimelord at 17 and uses a cane to not only support himself but defend himself, he also uses the fact his disability may lower people’s guard to his advantage.

🔥Cinder by Marissa Meyer
The protagonist and titular character of this novel is an amputee with a cyborg prosthetic. She experiences a lot of prejudice because in this setting people with cyborg elements are viewed as second class citizens. Despite this Cinder demonstrates great resourcefulness and resilience.

🪨The Last Airbender: The Rift (graphic novel)
Features Toph’s blindness and complicated relationship with her father, a lot of this stemming from him considering her delicate or weak when she is actually strong and independent.

🍵 The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett
Features Dinios who tries to hide his severe Dyslexia from everyone, including his superior, investigator Ana. Together they investigate a scheme that threatens the empire.

🤖 The Outside by Ada Hoffmann
Follows an Autistic scientist (Yasira Shien) in inventing something that warps reality and therefore attracts attention from the AI Gods, who may show mercy if she helps them hunt down another person.

Happy Pride Month everyone!! 🎉 🏳️‍🌈
We’ve put together some recommendations from our Library for you to enjoy this Pride. Listed in order (right to left) of the picture:

🐉 The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
An epic high fantasy that follows characters trying to stop the return of an ancient apocalyptic dragon. There are many q***r characters as well as a le***an relationship at the centre of the story, between a le***an dragonslayer and a bis*xual queen.

🌊 The House In The Cerulean Sea by Tj Klune
The story follows Linus Baker who is a case worker for orphaned magical kids. He’s given an assignment to assess a special orphanage on the island of Marsyas, run by a man named Arthur Parnassus. While at Marsyas, Linus surprises himself with finding a romance and family of his own.

⚔️ Nimona by N.D. Stevenson
Follow the titular character shapeshifter Nimona and the Knight Ballister Boldheart as they expose corruption in a powerful institution. Although there is little explicit romance there is an implied q***r relationship between Knight Boldheart and another Knight (confirmed in the movie) and Nimona’s shapeshifting is often read relating to gender diversity.

🚀 Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie
A space opera set in the Radchaai Empire, which does not recognise gender and all people are referred to with she/her pronouns regardless of biological s*x or presentation. The story is from Beq’s perspective as she uncovers the truth of her starship’s disappearance and plans revenge.

💀 Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir
Ah, the classic le***an yearning. Follow Gideon and Harrow of the Ninth house bickering and not admitting to even tolerating one another as they are set on a task by the Emperor. They must solved puzzles, master their skills and trust in one another to get through.
