Elephant in the Room ran its first pilot event with Spearwood Library for Harmony Day (20 March).

Why do we need Elephant in the Room? To make it possible for people to ask anything they want and talk to another person about society’s "elephants in the room".

Elephant in the Room collaborates with groups and organisations to provide events where people (our Guests) get to have conversations about controversial issues associated with difference and diversity – the elephant in the room – with people (our Conversation Hosts) who know about that topic through real life experience.

Contact us if you would like to know more about becoming a Host or collaborating on an Elephant in the Room event.

Elephant in the Room's Greg Watson just finished recording a brief but really thoughtful interview with Elizabeth Ebeli from LinkedIn. Thanks for the opportunity, Elizabeth, to discuss strategies to help people respond to prejudice, including how every person can be more aware of how unconscious bias functions and what we can do to try and engage in daily practices that help us become more aware of our own unconscious bias.

Perth Human Library, in collaboration with the City of Belmont, is providing a Human Library on 3 December (12pm to 4pm), 2021. Come along and help us mark International Day of People with Disability and International Human Rights Day.

The Human Library is a library of people! Join us to push past stereotypes and stigmas and learn more about individuals and their experiences!

By ‘borrowing’ human beings serving as open books, you can have your questions answered and have open conversations about tricky topics including disability, culture, mental health and more.

To book free tickets and learn more about the Human Books in the collection visit www.belmont-human-library.eventbrite.com.au/

This event is held in observance of Human Rights Day and International Day of People with Disability and is part of the City of Belmont's Let's Celebrate Festival presented by Live_Lighter.

Perth Human Library recently held a training session for new Human Books. This session is part of our preparation for a Human Library event to be held in collaboration with The City of Belmont on 3 December to mark the International Day of People with Disability (3 December) and International Human Rights Day (10 December).

Perth Human Library is getting back into action. On Wednesday 13 October, we will be training six new Human Books. Our new Human Books will become part of our Perth Human Library Depot and our fabulous team of Human Books. This training session is also associated with a collaboration with the City of Belmont for an up-coming event on 3 December.
