🌲🌳🌴Hi everyone, happy to say Stirling council supported my notice of motion last night to provide 800 free trees to those who live in the Heritage Protection Area. The reason being this area will not see changes to the Rcode zoning next year so it stands to reason that the trees planted will be permanent! The intention is for them to be planted on private property. As we know there are over 800 trees set to be removed at the ECU site so hopefully this will provide a walk up start to mitigating canopy loss.
As this has just been passed I can’t give you any info about which types we will be able to get but we are hoping to make available for this planting season (Spring). I’ll keep you posted.

Suzanne Migdale, a councillor at the City of Stirling, plans to move a resolution that, if passed, would be the first step to effectively ban the construction of data centres inside the city.

In her motion, Cr Migdale cites air quality, noise, water stress, and broader public health impacts as reasons for the proposed ban on data centres.

She says there is nothing to suggest companies are eyeing off any sites for data centres in the City of Stirling, but she wants to facilitate community debate before decisions need to be made.

"I'm not a tech NIMBY... We understand that we're going to need more data centres, but of course, there is the concern around what they mean in real terms to our local community," Cr Migdale told Nadia Mitsopoulos on 102.5 ABC Perth Mornings.

If approved, Tuesday's notice of motion would see the council request its chief executive to prepare a report for council's consideration before any change to the local planning scheme are made.

💡 I believe that all levels of government should be risk averse when it comes to our residents health, wellbeing and safety.
In light of this I will be raising a notice of motion at tomorrow night’s council meeting to exclude data centres from our city at this time.

🏍️🚳Should E-rideable’s be banned from our parks?

I recently asked council to consider this after having received numerous complaints from residents concerned about their safety when walking at Yokine Reserve.

Council said no to a ban but yes to more education to try and change user behaviour.

🌳ECU-To the many residents who took the time to share their feedback on the ECU subdivision, thank you. I grew up in the area, attended both Mt Lawley High and ECU. Many of my family, friends and alumni live here. Ensuring highest and best outcomes are achieved for now and the future is personal.

🔊At next week’s council meeting: The 12 month trial of the safe exchange site on Beaufort Street is now complete and based on the results officers have recommended that it become a permanent fixture!
