The ACCC has released an important update regarding fire extinguishers marketed for use on lithium-ion battery fires.

The ACCC has highlighted that:

• There is currently no applicable Australian safety standard covering the use of extinguishers on lithium-ion battery fires.

• These products and associated marketing materials should clearly state that they are ONLY suitable for use by trained fire-fighting professionals.

• They should not be marketed as suitable for use by members of the general public.

Fire authorities advise members of the public to evacuate to a safe place, call 000 and not attempt to extinguish lithium-ion battery fires themselves.

When did you last test your safety switches?

Here’s a look at what we do during an RCD test.
This piece of equipment simulates a fault and measures how fast your safety switch, or RCD, cuts the power. We’re not just making sure it trips, but making sure it trips within milliseconds to keep you safe.
Regular trip time testing is required to meet Australian standards and keep your workplace, home, or rental property compliant.

What would you do if you noticed a worn or frayed cord on a workplace appliance?

Option A: Wrap some electrical tape around it and keep working.

Option B: Unplug it immediately, tag it out of service, and notify your supervisor.

Option C: Leave it plugged in and assume someone else will fix it.

If you chose Option B, you are spot on! Damaged leads and faulty tools can easily go unnoticed during a busy workday. Regular electrical test and tag inspections identify minor wear and tear before it becomes a hazard, keeping your workplace operating safely and smoothly.

🚒 Coffs Coast: Is Your Fire Gear Ready for Action? 🚒

We’ve had a busy few days across Coffs Harbour and Woolgoolga, catching up with our local customers at holiday parks, commercial kitchens, and workshops. 🛠️

When it comes to fire safety, "close enough" isn't good enough. Our focus is ensuring every device performs perfectly when it's needed most.

Here’s what the Shock Busters team has been up to:

🔥 Fire Blanket Inspections and Installs: In Woolgoolga, we helped hospitality venues ensure their blankets are mounted for fast access according to AS 2444. Every second counts in a kitchen!

💧 Hose Reel Flow-Testing: Out in the Sawtell and Coffs industrial zones, we’ve been running AS 1851 flow tests to confirm high-pressure performance for commercial sites.

💡 Exit Light "Stress Tests": We ran 90-minute discharge tests on emergency lighting across Coffs and Woopi to make sure those battery backups are 100% ready for a blackout.

🚫 The Danger Zone: We removed several "failed" units from service this week -including expired devices and extinguishers with faulty gauges. (Check your gauges, folks! If it's not in the green, it's not a go!)

From the high-traffic industrial warehouses in North Boambee Valley to the busy retail hubs of Toormina and the waterfront tourism sites throughout the Coffs Harbour region, we’re here to keep the Coffs Coast safe and compliant. 🌊

📍 Spot us this week in: Coffs Harbour, Woolgoolga, Sawtell, Korora, Emerald Beach.
