Congratulations to local artist Candela Alconada on being commissioned for Darebin’s Powering Change Together comic strip series, part of Council's plan on community engagement to help spread the message of energy efficiency and electrification across the City of Darebin.

Candela is an artist and illustrator originally from La Plata, Argentina, who has been based in Australia since 2017. Her practice spans muralism, illustration and character-based storytelling, with a colourful and imaginative visual language inspired by fantasy, playfulness and the connection to our inner child. Through her work, Candela creates joyful and engaging images that invite audiences to connect with emotion, curiosity and imagination.

We look forward to seeing her vibrant storytelling bring energy efficiency to life for our community.

A look back at the epic performance by Cash Savage and The Last Drinks, with support by Tongue Dissolver at Darebin Arts Centre earlier this year. It was great to see families share in celebrating Australian music. 🎸⚡

Darebin writers, this is your final call to submit a piece of work to be considered for publication in dSCRIBE 19, our annual literary magazine!

From our dSCRIBE 19 editor, Adalya Nash Hussein : “This year’s theme is ‘Point’. Point as in Power____. Point as in ‘It’s rude to ____’. Point as in ‘What is the ____ ?’.

We’re interested in writing that is purposeful, polemic and sharp (or at least textured). This theme is just a potential point of departure but it’s up to you to find the endpoint.”

🖋️ Submissions close this Sunday 17 May
