🪦Have Your Say – Future Management of the Robe Cemetery💐

Council is seeking feedback on two important documents that will help guide the future management, preservation and operation of the Robe Cemetery:

📄 Draft Cemetery Management Policy
📄 Draft Cemetery Management Plan

The Robe Cemetery is an important community asset and place of remembrance, containing the graves and memorials of many people who helped shape our district's history.

The draft documents have been developed to:

✔ Guide the ongoing management of the cemetery
✔ Protect and preserve the historic cemetery precinct
✔ Support future planning and burial needs
✔ Improve record management and public information
✔ Provide a framework for heritage conservation

Community members are invited to review the draft documents and provide feedback.

Consultation period: Thursday 13 August 2026 until 12 noon, Thursday 3 September 2026.

🚨REMINDER that Census Night is Tuesday 11 August

You can complete the Census as soon as you get your instructions, if you know where you’ll be on Census night.

Census forms can be filled out either:

💻Online - Start or resume your Census using the Census number from your letter
or get a Census number to start.
🖋 Paper Form - If you didn't get a paper form delivered, there are hard copies available at the Robe Visitor Information Centre & Public Library to collect.

🤳For help and support over the phone, call the Census Contact Centre on 1800 181 227. The Census Contact Centre is now open 8am to 8pm every day, local time.

⚠️ Upcoming Road Closure & Planned Power Outage – Monday 10 August ⚠️

Please be advised that Robe Street will be temporarily closed on Monday 10 August, between 8.00am and 3.00pm, to allow SA Power Networks to safely undertake essential electrical works.

📍 Location: 30 Robe Street, Robe

The works will involve a crane, elevated work platform (EWP), trucks and support vehicles. Traffic detours will be in place, with a detour map provided below for motorists.

💡 Planned Power Outage
SA Power Networks has also advised that properties in the surrounding area will experience a planned power outage from approximately 8.30am to 3.00pm while these works are carried out.

To help keep communities informed, the South Australian Government is hosting a community forum at the Robe Bowling Club on Tuesday 4 August from 6pm – 7:30pm.

Hear from government leaders and experts including the Minister for Climate, Environment and Water and Minister for Tourism, the Hon. Emily Bourke MLC, and representatives from the Department of Primary Industries and Regions, Department for Environment and Water and SA Health.

This is an opportunity to learn more about H5 bird flu, the preparedness measures currently in place as well as the animal, human and environmental health considerations.

This forum is free and open to the public. Registration is essential due to venue capacity.

MARINA UPDATE – H5 AVIAN INFLUENZA (H5 BIRD FLU)

Following discussions with PIRSA over the past 24 hours, Council has removed the temporary closure signage at the Lake Butler Marina.

Since the initial reports yesterday, nine deceased wild birds have been removed from the marina. However, a number of birds displaying signs consistent with illness remain in the area, and we ask everyone using the marina to remain vigilant and follow PIRSA's advice.

AVOID
Avoid contact with sick or dead birds and wildlife. Keep children and pets away.

RECORD
Record what you see. If it is safe to do so, take photos or video and note the location.

REPORT
Report sick or dead birds to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888.

Council will continue to work closely with PIRSA and monitor the situation. We thank our community for their patience, cooperation and the prompt reporting of sick and deceased birds, which has assisted authorities in responding quickly.

🖋Census night is Tuesday 11 August 2026.

From late July 2026, households will receive instructions on how to complete the Census. You can complete the Census as soon as you get your instructions, if you know where you’ll be on Census night.

Most households will get a letter with instructions to complete the Census online. If you get instructions to complete online but would prefer a paper form, you’ll be able to request one.

Completing the Census is compulsory. Your participation ensures the Census delivers a complete picture of Australia, helping governments and communities plan for the future.

⚠️ URGENT: Temporary Closure – Lake Butler Marina
Council has closed Lake Butler Marina following the discovery of multiple deceased crested terns within the marina area.

As a precautionary measure, the marina is closed for public access until further notice while the matter is assessed by the appropriate authorities. Please note this closure does not impact adjoining businesses; it is simply restricting the general public from the marina infrastructure until the extent of the outbreak is known.

Members of the public are asked to:
• Not enter the closed marina area.
• Not touch or handle sick, injured or deceased birds.
• Keep children and pets well away from any birds or carcasses.
• Follow all temporary signage and directions.

We are working closely with the relevant State Government agencies and will provide further updates as more information becomes available.

We appreciate the community's understanding and cooperation while this precautionary closure remains in place.

⚠️⚠️REMINDER: AusAlert National Test taking place on Monday 27 July ⚠️⚠️

In South Australia, the test will take place at 1.30pm. During the test, all compatible mobile devices will be sent a Critical Alert at the same time. Devices include mobile phones, tablets and smart watches. It uses vibration, sound and on-screen messages to get your attention. As the national test is a Critical Alert, this happens even if your device is on ‘silent’ or ‘do not disturb’.

If your device receives the national test, it will vibrate and make a loud siren-like sound for 10 seconds before stopping.

You may receive this test while driving, riding or using public transport. 🛻

🚨Mobile phone laws still apply – don't read or respond to the alert while operating a vehicle. Only check the message when your vehicle is turned off and it is safe and legal to do so.

The alert may also play through your vehicle’s speakers using Apple CarPlay, Android Auto or Bluetooth and may interrupt navigation or media like music or podcasts. 📱

This is just a test, and you do not need to do anything.

Round 1 of the District Council of Robe 2026/27 Community Grants is now open, providing financial assistance to help bring local ideas to life.

💙 Community Events
• Apply for up to $2,000 in cash funding.
• Additional in-kind support may also be available.
• A total of $10,000 is available across this category.

🌱 Community Projects
• Grants are available for up to 50% of the total project cost.
• A total of $10,000 has been allocated to this category.

📅 Applications close Monday 31 August 2026
📢 Outcomes Advised: September 2025

📌 Please note: Funding is not available for projects that have already been completed or where expenses have already been incurred, and if all funds are allocated in Round 1 funding applications, Round 2 will not proceed.
