NSW SES - Marrickville Unit

NSW SES - Marrickville Unit The NSW SES - Marrickville Unit assisting local communities during emergencies This in turn builds community resilience to floods, storms and tsunami.

The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) is an emergency, preparedness and response service dedicated to assisting the community of NSW. It is made up almost entirely of volunteers, with 229 units located throughout the state. The units comprise of approximately 10,000 volunteer members, who are easily identified by their distinctive orange overalls. While our core responsibilities are for flood, sto

rm and tsunami operations, the NSW SES also provides support to general rescue efforts in the State. This includes Road Crash Rescue (RCR), Vertical Rescue (VR), Urban Search and Rescue (USR), evidence searches (both metropolitan and rural) and other forms of specialist rescue that may be required due to local threats. Volunteers in a number of isolated communities have also been trained as Community First Responders by the Ambulance Service of New South Wales. The Service's trained rescuers also support the full-time emergency services during major disasters. The NSW SES assists other emergency services when they are performing major operations. These services include the NSW Police Force, the NSW Rural Fire Service, Fire and Rescue NSW and the Ambulance Service of NSW. The NSW SES also partners with local communities through Community Engagement programs like FloodSafe, StormSafe and TsunamiSafe. These programs are supported by strategies and resources, are delivered locally through a range of activities and events and are a priority for the NSW SES. The aim is to engage at-risk communities on preparedness, response and recovery measures so that there is no loss of life and impacts caused by these events are minimised. **Important community announcement**

Hi Inner West,

Parts of NSW coast is experiencing a "1 in 100" year swell that is being driven by a coastal low pressure system. This is leading to strong winds and dangerous surfs. This weather is expected to persist into the weekend.

NSW SES volunteers, including NSW SES - Marrickville Unit volunteers have been out and about assisting the public.

NSW SES - Marrickville Unit would like to remind the community to;
🪑 Secure loose items around your yard if it is safe to do so
🌳 Move vehicles under cover and away from trees
🌊 Keep clear of creeks and storm drains
🛑 Do not drive through, walk or play in floodwater
🚩Flash-flooding can occur suddenly and with no warning
☎️ If you require assistance in floods or storms, call the NSW SES on 132 500. In life threatening emergencies, call Triple Zero (000).

Swells up to 10 metres offshore and exceeding five metres on the coast have been forecast as wild weather whips up dangerous surf.

Today we celebrate the incredible women who help keep our communities safe. 💜

This year's theme is "give to gain" - which is reflected by the amazing women of the NSW SES - Marrickville Unit.

Today we recognise the dedication, leadership, and resilience of the women within our volunteer emergency service organisation. They willingly give their time to help the community and more importantly, uplift each other at the Unit and through the service.
