An independent evaluation of Councilโ€™s Resilience in Recovery program is now underway, led by researchers from Deakin University.

All residents are invited to take part, whether you were involved in the program or not. Your feedback will help inform how future emergency recovery programs are delivered in our community.

The survey is anonymous and takes around 8โ€“10 minutes to complete.

๐Ÿ“ข Community Emergency Management Plans (CEMPs)

These plans are live documents that will change, and evolve as your town does, and that's all up to you.

Draft CEMPs for Undera, Murchison, Bunbartha and Mooroopna are online on council's website. These plans have been developed with community members to better serve residents, providing practical steps for preparing and responding to emergencies.

โœ… Access the plans here:
https://greatershepparton.com.au/community/emergencies/emergency-tools-information/cemp

We are hoping to meet with local groups before the end of the year to:
โœ”๏ธ Debrief on recovery
โœ”๏ธ Share printed copies of the plans
โœ”๏ธ Discuss next steps before our program is wrapped up at the end of the year

๐Ÿ“ž Questions? Call (03) 5832 9700 or email [email protected].

Your input and involvement make a difference.

Community based emergency management is about working together to be safer and more resilient, without building greater dependencies on agencies, government and service providers.

Earlier this week, Greater Shepparton City Council hosted a one-day Disability Inclusive Emergency Planning (DIEP) Forum on 12 November at the North Shepparton Community & Learning Centre.

The session, led by Courtney Jones from the University of Sydney, focused on building community capacity and encouraging shared responsibility for supporting people with disability during emergencies.

Councilโ€™s Emergency Management and Resilience department and the Community Wellbeing department, NDIS support workers, emergency services personnel, and community members were all represented.

Key topics included:

๐ŸคHow communities and support services can collaborate to ensure safety and support for people with disability during emergencies.

๐ŸŽ’The importance of preparedness, including tools such as the First 72 Hours plan.

โ™ฟThe need for government staff and emergency responders to integrate disability support needs into emergency management planning.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธThe importance of ensuring that people with disability have opportunities to participate in preparedness programs and are included in all phases of local disaster risk management.

The Forumโ€™s overarching goal was clear: to strengthen emergency preparedness for people with disability, amplify their voices, and ensure that no one is left behind.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Unpacking insurance: why premiums are rising and finding solutions ๐ŸŒง๏ธ

Why are insurance costs soaring in flood-affected areas โ€“ and what can communities do about it?

Join ARC Justice (www.facebook.com/61581216262423) for free community forums in Mooroopna and Shepparton featuring Dr Karl Mallon, CEO of Climate Valuation (https://www.facebook.com/climatevaluation), who can help people understand how insurers use data to set insurance premiums.

Dr Mallon will explain how premiums are set, what drives higher costs in regional areas and what could change.

These arenโ€™t debates about climate change or sessions to vent about insurers โ€“ theyโ€™re designed to be constructive community conversations focused on understanding and solutions.

๐Ÿ“ Mon, Nov 17, 6pm-8pm, Mooroopna Education and Activity Centre, 23 Alexandra St, Mooroopna
๐Ÿ“ Tues, Nov 18, 6pm-8pm, South Shepparton Community Centre, 290 Archer St, Shepparton
