🏐 Our region is ready to play on the big stage. Our stadium needs to be ready too.

Greater Shepparton has the talent, teams and supporters, but the court run-off at Shepparton Sports Stadium does not meet the requirements for elite netball. This means elite-level games simply cannot be played at the current stadium.

In this video, Stacey, Netball Victoria’s North East Regional Manager, explains what this means for our players, clubs and community, and why investment in the Shepparton Sports and Events Centre is so important.

Council is calling on the Victorian Government to commit $12 million towards the $37 million redevelopment.

This investment would deliver modern, compliant courts, give local athletes more opportunities closer to home, and allow Greater Shepparton to attract elite sport and major events, bringing more visitors and economic benefits to our region.

Council acknowledges Cr Shane Sali’s service as Mayor

Greater Shepparton City Council acknowledges the significant contribution of Cr Shane Sali, who stepped down from his position as Mayor yesterday, Monday 7 September 2026.

Cr Sali served as Mayor for four consecutive terms from June 2022, strongly advocating for Greater Shepparton and working alongside Councillors, Council staff, government and community stakeholders to advance the region’s priorities.

“Serving as Mayor over the past four years has been one of the greatest privileges of my life,” Cr Sali said.

Council CEO Fiona Le Gassick thanked Cr Sali for his leadership throughout his tenure.

“His commitment, leadership and passion for Greater Shepparton have been evident throughout his tenure, and I have greatly valued the opportunity to work closely with him.

“On behalf of the organisation, I thank Shane for his contribution to Greater Shepparton and wish him all the very best for the future.”

Deputy Mayor Cr Geoff Akers will undertake the responsibilities of Mayor while Council completes the process to elect a new Mayor. In accordance with the Local Government Act, a mayoral election will be held within 30 days of the position becoming vacant.

Cr Sali will take a leave of absence from Council until the results of the November State Election have been declared.

Congratulations to the 20 emerging community leaders who have graduated from Greater Shepparton City Council’s 2026 Community Leadership Program! 🎓

A graduation ceremony held on Wednesday 2 September 2026 marked the completion of the program’s thirteenth year, following several months of learning, connection and leadership development.

Delivered in partnership with Shane Garner Consulting, participants built skills in areas including public speaking, communication, resilience, governance and community leadership.

We look forward to seeing the contribution this year’s graduates make across Greater Shepparton. 👏

That’s a wrap on the 2026 Greater Shepparton Business Festival!

From Monday 3 August to Friday 21 August 2026, almost 600 attendances were recorded across 22 events, bringing together local business owners, entrepreneurs, professionals, presenters and supporters for three weeks of learning, connection and growth.

From practical workshops and online sessions to networking opportunities and a headline keynote from Eagle Boys founder Tom Potter, this year’s festival helped local businesses build skills, share ideas and make valuable connections.

Thank you to everyone who took part and helped make this year’s festival such a success.
