Terrace Timor Network

Terrace Timor Network The Terrace Timor Network is an organisation connecting the people of Timor with the people of St Joseph's College Gregory Terrace.

Terrace Timor Network (TTN) was formed in 2006 by a group of parents whose sons had been involved in the Terrace Year 10 East Timor Immersions of 2004 and 2005. The experience of travelling in Timor Leste, meeting the people and seeing the enormous day to day challenges they faced, had a profound impact not only on them, but also on their families. Programmes and projects are undertaken at the com

munity level in partnership with the men, women and children of rural communities in the mountains beyond Dili. Initiatives are chosen that will make a real difference to the people as they seek to build futures of hope and opportunity for their families. We are committed to supporting the people of Timor Leste on their continuing journey of economic development and long term independence. Working in partnership with The Edmund Rice Foundation in Timor-Leste, TTN supports a range of special projects and initiatives in the key sectors of health, education and sustainable economic development.

In the latest TTN newsletter, we called out for any stories or photos which could be useful to our team working on a TTN 20 year anniversary book. We soon received some great photos generoulsy shared one of the early members of "Brother Dan's Crew" who visited Timor in 2009. These were the early days of TTN and twenty years on, the passion and drive to change lives continues. If you have photos or stories to tell, please post here or PM the TTN page. Thanks Chris for sharing!

Last Wednesday, TTN members met with the Edmund Rice Foundation to review significant community consultation work they commissioned with Timor Unearthed to guide our partnership projects this year and beyond. 454 households surveyed. Majority houshold inclome < USD $115 per month. The good and unsurprising news: TTN's priorities and ideas align very closely with those of the community. A second round of consultation will now be performed in May to get community feedback on specific proposals. This community engagement and alignment is a critical step in the process of sustainable partnerships.

Great news for TTN: the new Principal of Terrace and long time supporter Mr Damien Fall is 100% behind TTN and we’ve agreed on a broader vision: welcoming past students (Old Boys), parents, and anyone in the Terrace family who wants to stay connected or get involved for the first time. We’re not changing our heart – we’re simply opening the door wider so the work can continue for another 20 years.

2026 calendar we’re aligning on (save these dates!)

19 March – Timor Immersion Presentation (perfect for new families)
20–27 May – Timor Week at Terrace (including Restoration Day on 20 May)
30 May – Timor at Tennyson
25 Aug – 4 Sep – TTN 20 Year Anniversary Trip (spots open)
3–13 Sep – Year 9 Immersion
TBD – 20-year celebration event
Weekly Ongoing - Kolega Cafe at Terrace
We’ll share more details shortly via Touchstone (the Terrace Newsletter), the Terracian, social media, and our TTN list.

How you can help (choose what feels right – even 30 minutes makes a difference) A few of us are forming light-touch sub-groups (marketing, projects, funding). If one small role sparks your interest – reviewing a newsletter, sharing an old photo, or joining a quick Zoom – just drop a comment or IM. No pressure at all – we’re all volunteers giving back because we care. Some photos from our last gathering below!

HOW DOES KOLEGA
COFFEE CHANGE LIVES?
Proceeds from the sale of each pack of
Merlo’s Kolega coffee directly fund programs
that empower women and support the
economic development of communities in the
Railaco Craic region of Timor-Leste.
These funds support literacy and numeracy
programs and provide rural women access to
a microloans program that helps them build a
more sustainable livelihood.
St Joseph’s College, Gregory Terrace and the
Terrace Timor Network are excited about our
new partnership with Merlo coffee to roast and
deliver Kolega coffee. The Merlo family are part
of the Terrace community and have generously
given their time and expertise to support the
launch of the ‘new’ Kolega coffee.
The Merlo roasted Kolega coffee is a very
smooth, single origin Timor coffee handled with
care by the experts at Merlo. You can sample
a delicious cup of the new coffee at the Kolega
Café at Tennyson.
To purchase your own life changing beans or
a packet of ground Merlo Kolega coffee visit
our website – www.justiceproducts.org or buy
directly from the Merlo web store.
