On Wednesday evening, a happy band of SMOWers attended the Gala Dinner for the 70th Anniversary of Meals on Wheels in Queensland.

We enjoyed the camaraderie of the evening, to be in a room where everyone was passionate about the importance of Meals on Wheels.
The service not only provides delicious and nutritious meals, it delivers them with genuine care. 😀
Providing that friendly chat, the laugh, the connection with an elderly or vulnerable person in our community, is what makes the service so special.
And every volunteer keeps turning up each week because they know the importance of what they do. And the difference their friendly smile, chat and genuine interest can have. For the client. For the client's family. And that is its own reward. 💚💙

Today, as we mark National Meals on Wheels Day, we are reflecting on something truly extraordinary. For seventy years, this has never just been about dropping off a plate of food. It has always been about presence. It’s about the familiar knock at the door, the shared stories, the gentle reassurance that someone is looking out for you, and the profound human connection that turns a house into a home.

None of this legacy happens by accident. It is built entirely on community love.

Today, we are wrapping our arms around the people who have carried this mission forward with unwavering grace: the volunteers who show up rain, hail, or shine with a smile; the teams behind the scenes pouring their hearts into every detail; and a community that treats one another like family. You are the hands, the feet, and the beating heart of everything we do.

Prepare to have your heart warmed as this special feature turns back the clock to honour Ipswich Meals On Wheels Inc., celebrating their legacy as the pioneering trailblazers who brought the very first service to life right here in Queensland! Tune in as our CEO, Evan Hill, shares how deeply rooted we are in the communities we serve and the profound impact we have created together over seven decades.

As comes to a close, we want to give a massive shoutout to our incredible volunteers across Queensland. Every day, they make room for connection by showing up for our clients, breaking the cycle of isolation one conversation at a time.

Small, deliberate acts of room-making help people show up, belong, and feel less alone. While the official week is ending, the need for connection never stops.

Whether it's volunteering with us or checking in on an elderly neighbour down the street, let’s keep making room for each other.
