The OFFICIAL Safer Schoolies for Parents page. We provide information to help you prepare your teen for a safe and memorable 2024 end of year celebration.
Completion of Year 12 is traditionally a time of celebration for school leavers across Australia. Friends head off to various 'Schoolies' locations for a well-deserved break to mark a milestone in their lives. The Queensland Government does not promote Schoolies, rather it responds to the schoolies phenomenon. In a whole-of-government approach, Safer Schoolies is focussed on enhancing the safety o
f young people and decreasing risk taking behaviour. Via communication, diversionary activities, identification and on the ground support, Safer Schoolies supports school leavers in making good choices, while celebrating within a controlled environment. Safer Schoolies Gold Coast Response
The Gold Coast has been the chosen destination for many Queensland high school graduates since the 1970s. The Queensland Government’s Safer Schoolies team operates a safety response for the first week of Schoolies each year focused on enhancing the safety of young people and decreasing risk taking behaviour. The Safer Schoolies Gold Coast Response is free for legitimate Year 12 school leavers. It includes wristbanding for legitimate Year 12 school leavers, providing nightly access to a drug and alcohol-free beach party (Schoolies Hub) where they can celebrate safely in the company of their peers. In addition, the Response week features on the ground support provided by numerous government agencies and services, community and volunteer organisations. In 2021, the Safer Schoolies Gold Coast Response will be activated from Saturday 20 – Friday 26 November. For more information, head to our website www.saferschoolies.qld.gov.au

Early signs of meningococcal disease include vomiting, sensitivity to light, drowsiness or confusion, headache, fever and loss of appetite, and let's face it... all of these things can easily be mistaken for a hangover! So don't ignore these symptoms and seek medical advice before it's too late.

Be safe and watch your mates
Completion of Year 12 is traditionally a time of celebration for students across the state, and many take the opportunity to head off with friends to various 'Schoolies' locations for a well-deserved break.
The Safer Schoolies Initiative is a whole of government response to the Schoolies holiday season across Queensland. Lead by the Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women, the Initiative, including the Gold Coast Schoolies Community Safety Response (Saturday 21 November to Friday 27 November, 2020), is supported by numerous government agencies, local councils and community partners.
The Queensland Government does not promote Schoolies. We work in partnership with local councils and community groups to provide diversionary activities, support services and safety initiatives to help young people stay safe during end-of-school celebrations and to minimise potential impacts of these gatherings on the local community.
Strategies delivered as part of the Gold Coast Schoolies Response include:
free nightly activities and entertainment in an alcohol and drug-free entertainment precinct known as the Schoolies Hub
wristbanding to easily identify schoolies
the establishment of a purpose-built medical facility
a range of coordinated support services, delivered by volunteers and community organisations
a statewide communication campaign and education program.
It's important to note that we're not the same as the agents and organisations that Year 12 school leavers may have booked their accommodation and travel through or other activities such as dance parties.
We are committed to the safety of young people and encourage them to take responsibility for their own actions and ‘Be safe and watch your mates’.
The official Gold Coast Schoolies Community Safety Response will take place between Saturday 21 November and Friday 27 November 2020.
Please read the Community Guidelines before posting on the page.
