In good news, Council now has a 24/7 hotline to report illegal tree removal...and are gaining traction against illegal removals:

A Ku-ring-gai property owner has been penalized $10,000 by Hornsby Local Court for the illegal removal of a protected 24-metre Norfolk Island Pine in Killara.

The NSW Government reminds the community that bridal creeper must not be imported into the state, sold, bartered, exchanged or offered for sale.

Bridal creeper is a vine that smothers and outcompetes other plants, including threatened plant species in NSW. It also reduces food and habitat for native animals.

The shiny leaves are present in autumn and winter. Leaves are up to 7 cm long, oval with pointed tips and have veins running lengthways along the leaf.

Flowers are less than 1 cm wide, greenish-white and tubular with 6 petals that curve backwards. The small red berries are present in spring and early summer.
