🌏 World Environment Day 2026 reminds us that starts in the systems we often can’t see, including our rivers and catchments.

In Tasmania’s Derwent catchment, a three-year trial of real-time nutrient monitoring led by the Derwent Estuary Program has shown how much we miss with traditional sampling alone. Continuous data is revealing hidden pollution spikes, tracking nutrient loads, and improving how we understand ecosystem health.

Better data means better decisions and healthier waterways in a warming climate.

As National Reconciliation Week comes to a close, we reflect on a week of listening, learning and connection at Ozwater’26.

Held during National Reconciliation Week, this year’s conference created space for important conversations about water, Country, culture and reconciliation. From our First Peoples keynote speaker and artists to thought-provoking panel discussions and cultural experiences, delegates were invited to consider how our sector can contribute to meaningful change.

Reconciliation is an ongoing journey that requires reflection, accountability and action. Thank you to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders, knowledge holders, artists and communities who shared their perspectives and experiences throughout the week.
