Councillor Kevin Lam - City of Fairfield

Councillor Kevin Lam - City of Fairfield Empower, Inspire & Integrity. Deputy Mayor for Fairfield Council. Running for local office has never been part of my life plan.

My name is Kevin Lam and I'm honoured and grateful to be elected as Councillor for the City of Fairfield. The City of Fairfield is one of the most diverse LGA in NSW, comprising an area of 102 km2 and has a population of over 210,000 residents. However, being a child of first-generation Vietnamese immigrants who escaped war-torn Vietnam in the late 1980s, I witnessed the adversity my parents endur

ed throughout my upbringing. My father worked endless hours at a low paying factory job saving every penny to be able to put food on the table, with just enough for my twin brother and I to participate in recreational sport and education. While struggling to grasp the English language and navigate through the Australian culture, my mother ensured that my siblings and I were well supported to thrive in Fairfield City. Despite my parent’s sacrifice and hardships, my parents never forgot to remind us how lucky we are to living in this city. Their teachings fuelled my determination to not just make a living but step it up to make a difference. My parents made Mount Pritchard our home in the early 1990s. I attended Mount Pritchard East Public School and completed my Higher School Certificate at St Johns Park High School in 2010. During university, my early working career involved being a crew member at Lansvale McDonalds, a retail assistant at Horsley Park IGA and a barista but always worked a second job relating to my career. My hobbies and interests include soccer, running, motorcycling, travelling and spending time with family. In 2016, I graduated from University of New South Wales with a Bachelor’s Degree in City Planning. I’ve worked as a Town Planner and Development Manager for local and state government organisations in the past 10 years. Despite working, I’ve never forgotten my roots and knew that my educational background, skills acquired through my work, the diverse conversations with locals and my understanding of the local community needs’ could re-shape and enrich our community. This is why I had my first attempt to become City of Fairfield’s Councillor at the age of 22 in 2016 and again in 2021 where I was successful. Now as a Councillor, I look forward to contributing to the growth and development of our city, rebuilding our city landscapes, championing projects that will support youths, create infrastructure to assist our community and promote the richness of our beautiful city. Importantly, I hope to also inspire others (youth in particular) to make valuable contributions beyond their professional career as a manner of honouring our parents and the generation before us.

On Saturday marked the official opening of Mount Pritchard Montessori Academy, representing their 4th early childhood education facility in our Fairfield LGA.

It was an honor to stand alongside Mayor Frank Carbone, Federal MP Dai Le MP, and Father Benedict Mackenzie to officially welcome this world-class facility to Mount Pritchard.

Thank you to Charles Assaf, Rami Nassif, Montessori educators, and staff for their dedication to providing a nurturing, high-quality learning environment.

On Friday evening, I had the privilege of attending the Zen Tea Lounge Foundation's charity dinner, 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗔𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗩𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲.

Once again, I had the honor of leading the candlelight ceremony alongside Kate Mayer. Together with the community, we stood in solemn solidarity to honor the women and children who have tragically lost their lives to domestic violence since June 2025. It is always moving and a reminder of the work that still lies ahead.

This evening also marked a major milestone, Zen Tea Lounge Foundation celebrating 10 years of service to our community. Led by Amy Nguyen, the organisation has dedicated to empowering those affected by domestic violence, abuse, and isolation.

Thank you to the entire team at Zen Tea Lounge for your ongoing advocacy and all those involved to make the night impactful 🕯️🕊️

A fantastic morning last Saturday officially opening the newly refurbished Young Academics Early Learning Centre in Mount Pritchard and their 48th across NSW.

As someone who grew up just down the road, it is incredibly rewarding to see this old facility transformed into a high-standard, quality centre that can now support up to 64 local children.

It was a true pleasure to celebrate this milestone alongside Senator Maria Kovacic, Councillor Michael Mijatovic, CEO James Kazzia, and of course, the dedicated early childhood educators and the local families.

A fantastic evening earlier this week as the 24-Hour Economy NSW hosted its Open Mike Night in Canley Vale.

It was a privilege to share the stage at Bar 53 with Commissioner Michael Rodrigues and Anthony Nguyen (Little Asia- L.A District Coordinator) as we share insights on how The Canley (Canley Vale and Canley Heights) have activated their night-time vibrancy and economy.

This is made possible by the local business collectives ("Little Asia" and Canley Heights Nights), Fairfield Council team and importantly the backing of the NSW Government’s Purple Flag and Special Entertainment Precinct initiatives, which are giving our local business owners and the wider community the confidence to thrive, innovate, and grow.

Big thanks to Business Western Sydney Executive Director, David Borger, Lisa Havilah, Melissa Musgrave and The Hon. John Graham MLC being part of the discussion on elevating the role Western and Southwest Sydney.
