Has your parcel arrived this morning?

At lunchtime yesterday, Fire and Rescue NSW Station 007 Horningsea Park responded to reports of a Structure Fire 2nd Alarm at Toll Prestons.

On arrival, they found a compactor alight with flames penetrating into the warehouse through the conveyor system.

Their quick actions in stopping the escalation of this incident had the largest distribution centre in South West Sydney back operating just a few hours later.

A great outcome for Toll and local businesses who rely on their services.

In a fight for our own lives...

As FRNSW Firefighters we always fight for the members of our Macarthur and Wollondilly communities.

We fight as if it's our own families that are trapped inside the burning home, the wrecked car or the local businesses that we attend.

Unfortunately, we have become 3-5 times more likely than the people we protect to be diagnosed with cancers caused by the incidents that we attend.

Most of these are still not recognised as being caused by our workplace and we continue to watch our mates and their families suffer because of it.

Brrrr it’s cold in here…

With the temperatures dropping this afternoon many of our local residents will be turning on their heaters.

Our heaters are essential in keeping us warm but unfortunately they will also be responsible for many house fires across the Wollondilly and Macarthur this winter.

Here’s a few tips:

🔥 Check your electric and gas heaters are in good condition before you use them.
🔥 Plug heaters directly into wall sockets only. Do not overload powerboards.
🔥 Ensure everything is kept a metre from the heater.
🔥 Do not bring outdoor heaters inside as most produce carbon monoxide.

Teamwork makes the dream work…

NSW Ambulance Paramedics and FRNSW Firefighters are always working together at all types of emergencies across the Wollondilly Shire and Macarthur area.

Our goal is the same. To provide the best care possible for the person / people needing our help.

Yesterday, our working relationship was further strengthened as we hosted over 30 local paramedics to trade lessons across many emergency scenarios. Including:

A vehicle on it’s side
Electric vehicle hazards
Bariatric patient transport
Hazardous materials and decontamination

The experiences shared and relationships developed ensure we deliver the best possible service to our community.

That’s a Save…

At 1301 this afternoon, Rescue Pumper 093 Narellan responded with Fire and Rescue NSW Station 092 St Andrews and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 088 Campbelltown to reports of a house fire in Gregory Hills.

Smoke alarms provided the residents who were upstairs with an early warning that enabled them to escape their house that was rapidly filling with smoke.

The owner commenced extinguishment of the fire, before FRNSW 093 crew arrived and entered the property with breathing apparatus and a hose line just 8minutes after the 000 call.

The quick actions by the occupants and first arriving firefighters undoubtedly saved this family home.

A great outcome to a potentially devastating fire.

Helping Sydney’s Sick Kids…

This morning, Firefighters from the Fire and Rescue NSW Macarthur & Wollondilly Region Command MS3 volunteered their time to raise funds for the Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation Sydney Sick Kids Appeal.

With donation helmets made by the crews at FRNSW Station 093 in tow, they managed to raise an incredible $12,706.95 for FRNSW 002 Station The Burns Unit at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

Our RPAS team conducted a heat map flyover of Accor Stadium this afternoon and confirmed that Origin is Blue. We will keep monitoring for any Maroon flare-ups and extinguish them promptly. Stay tuned for updates!

Helmets of Hope…

When a child suffers a serious burn in the Macarthur and Wollondilly area, FRNSW Firefighters are often first on scene.

Our very own Senior Firefighter Peter Fairlie is doing his best to help these kids by saving out of service structural helmets from landfill and turning them into donation boxes.

All funds raised go to FRNSW 002 Station The Burns Unit at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead to advance burn injury treatments for all NSW kids through Beat The Burn
