Consulate General of India, Sydney in collaboration with AIBC NSW Chapter a business interactive session for visiting Indian IT & ITES companies led by and Australian companies from the BFSI, Healthcare, Cybersecurity, Education, Retail and Government sectors on 31 August 2026, at the Consulate.
The session comprised of welcome address by Acting Consul General Mr Nirav Sutariya, industry address by Ms Nidhi Gupta, Director – Global Trade Development, NASSCOM and address by Mr Ravi Mandalika, AIBC NSW - President. This was followed by introduction of the delegation and one to one business interaction and networking. The delegation met major IT and professional services companies in Sydney yesterday and travelling to Melbourne to attend Intersekt 2026.

National Science Week 2026 Celebrations

The Consulate General of India, Sydney and Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Sydney, in partnership with Bandana Cultural School, celebrated National Science Week 2026 on 20 August 2026 with an engaging programme highlighting the connection between science, culture, creativity and the environment.

The event was addressed by Acting Consul General Mr. Nirav Sutariya, who shared his remarks on the significance and contributions of science in ancient and modern India, highlighting India’s rich scientific heritage and its continuing journey of innovation and discovery.

The programme featured a vibrant dance performance on environmental theme, a science-based drama, an engaging tour of the science exhibition, and concluded with a colourful Science Art & Craft Display showcasing the creativity and imagination of the participants.

A wonderful celebration inspiring young minds to explore science through art, performance, creativity and curiosity! 🌱✨

The session comprised of welcome address by Acting Consul General Mr Nirav Sutariya, industry address by Mr Vijay Mangukiya - Head of delegation and presentations by Mr Sridhar Iyenger, Director, International Events at GJEPC.

CGI Sydney organised a meeting for Mr Prabhat, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India and his delegation consisting of officials from National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC) with Director, Centre for Australia India Relations at the Consulate on 17 August 2026 to enhance co-operation between India and Australia under the Audio Visual Co-production Agreement.
This was followed by a facility visit and meeting with leadership team at Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) head office in Sydney to explore working collaborations and SBS participation in India's major events like IFFI and WAVES.

The Consulate General of India, Sydney, organised a grand Reception to celebrate the 80th Independence Day of India on 16 August 2026 at the Darling Harbour Theatre, International Convention Centre (ICC) Sydney.

Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of New South Wales and the Honourable Chris Minns, 47th Premier of New South Wales honoured the reception as Chief Guests. Among other distinguished dignitaries include the Honourable Kellie Anne Sloane, MP and several Members of NSW Parliament, Co-chairs of NSW Parliamentary Friends of India - Hon'ble Warren Kirby and Hon'ble Gurmesh Singh, Consular Corps in NSW, Indian community and CEOs and Business leaders, and prominent political leaders attended the reception. The grand celebrations was attended by over 2,000 guests. attended the reception.

Dr. S Janakiraman Consul General of India and his spouse received the dignitaries and guests at the Reception. He later opened the celebrations of the 80th Independence Day of India and gave a welcome address.

In their addresses, the Hon’ble Governor, the Hon’ble Premier, and the Hon’ble Opposition Leader lauded the strong bilateral relationship and reaffirmed their commitment to promoting trade, cultural, and people-to-people ties between India and Australia.

The cultural programme featured a special “One-Line Exhibition” showcasing iconic monuments of both nations; vibrant cultural performances by winners and runners of the 3rd Talent Show Competition held in July 2026: Raunakaan Bhangra Group, Nartan Institute of Performing Arts, Svasti Kuchipudi Natyalaya, Nityakalashestra Fine Arts Academy, Groovex Dance Academy, and SVN Academy; energetic drum performances by the Indoz Rhymes Group and Shivagarjana Sydney Group; a soulful rendition of Vande Mataram by Ms. Gayatri Bharat and her ensemble; and a fireside chat with former Australian cricket star Shane Watson, who discussed the growing synergy between Indian and Australian sports and entertainment sectors as a key figure leading the International Masters League from the Australian side.

On the occasion of 80th Independence Day, Consul General Dr S Janakiraman unfurled at the Consulate on 15 August 2026. The ceremony included singing of National Song and National Anthem of India, reading of President’s speech and address by Consul General, vibrant cultural dances showcasing India’s rich culture and felicitations to Har Ghar Tiranga competitions’ participants. It was enthusiastically attended by the community members.

Cultural performances included classical Odissi dance performance by ICCR’s Pratibha Sangam Award Winner Ms Deblina Roy and Bihu dance by Gargi Gogoi and Jatarupa Sarma Upadhyay. The dancers were felicitated by Consul General.

As part of the Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign, the Consulate and SVCC had organised ‘India Through My Lens - Photography Competition’, ‘Viksit Bharat 2047- Painting Competition’ and ‘MyIndiaMyStory- Reel Competition’. An Exhibition of arts of Photography and Painting Competitions were displayed at the Consulate during the event. The participants were also felicitated by Consul General.
