Today, we honour those who dedicated their lives to serving and protecting their country during times of war and conflict. Many made the ultimate sacrifice, their courage and commitment will never be forgotten.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Forestville Fire Station supports World FOP Day. Since FOP is an ultra-rare disease, many doctors are not familiar with its early symptoms nor have they encountered a patient with FOP, leading to improper care that can progress symptoms. We are advocating for awareness and a treatment for this ultra-rare disease.

**SMOKE ALARM SAVES FAMILY**

Shortly before midnight last night Forestville and Willoughby firefighters responded to reports of a house fire in Castle Cove. A family of 5 who were sleeping at the time were woken by the smoke alarm, allowing them to escape the fire.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the home and extinguished a rapidly escalating fire which had started in the kitchen. The cause of the fire was determined to be an electrical fault in a dishwasher.
The activation of the smoke alarm prevented an unthinkable tragedy - please test your smoke alarms today.

The team at Gordon Fire station and in fact our fire brigade family as a whole are in deep sadness today at the news of the passing of our very loved Inspector Kim Simpson. Everyone in fire and rescue who had the pleasure of working with Kim would speak fondly of their time with him. A great leader, a great carer and a terrific firefighter it is with a very heavy heart that we’ve learned of his untimely passing.

It is an acute reminder to all of us at fire and rescue that despite the “hero” tag we often encounter, we are in fact people too. Our mental health can and often is damaged by the things we experience and that sometimes we need help ourselves. It is also a reminder to our wider community to check in with our friends and families and prioritise our own health by seeking assistance if needed. There is no shame in asking for help. Likewise never hesitate to ask, is everything okay.

Vale Inspector Kim Simpson #6398. You will be greatly missed and we are all better for having meet you. We are however all hurting at this tragic news today. May you rest in peace.

From your firefighting family at Gordon Fire and Rescue.
