🌿 Jarjums on Country🌿

What started as a rainy morning blossomed into a beautiful adventure during our Bush Kindy excursion to Bunyaville Conservation Park.

Our Jarjums were eager to explore after fueling their bodies for the day, proudly dressing themselves in gumboots and high-vis vests, ready to head into the forest. Along our journey, we learned about caring for Country and respecting Mother Earth while connecting deeply with nature.

The Jarjums explored the textures of trees, discovering that rough-barked trees felt warm, while smooth trunks felt cool and full of water. We collected special natural treasures and worked together to create a beautiful nature art piece using branches as a frame, filling it with our precious finds.

We paused to listen carefully to the sounds of Country, practicing Dadirri—deep listening and quiet awareness. Along the way, we observed mushrooms, fungi, birds, and insects thriving in their natural habitat.

Spending time together on Turrbal and Yuggera Country, we played, explored, and learned how to care for the land. After such a big adventure, the bus ride heading home, some Jarjums were still very excited, while others were quietly tired from the day’s adventure.

🌱 What a beautiful way to learn, connect, and grow through nature.

🌱🐛 Kindy Worm Farm Adventure! 🐛🌱
Today we were lucky to welcome the wonderful team from Bunnings Virginia, who led an engaging and hands-on session with our kindergarten jarjums all about composting and caring for worms.

We began by reading a book about composting with Miss Mel, helping the children understand how food scraps can be reused to support the environment. From there, the real fun began as the children worked together to create our very own worm farm!

The Jarjums learned that worms play an important role in breaking down organic waste into nutrient-rich compost. They discovered that a worm farm needs to be placed in a safe, sheltered spot, away from direct sun and strong winds, and that worms thrive in a moist environment.

Using cocopeat, the children made soft bedding for the worms to live in. Each child had the opportunity to gently place a handful of worms into their new home, carefully covering them with a “worm blanket” to help keep them protected and comfortable.

Moving forward, we will be collecting our food scraps after lunch and feeding the worms daily, reinforcing sustainable practices and responsibility. Over time, we will also be able to collect “worm tea” (liquid fertiliser) from the worm farm, which we can use to help nourish and grow our plants at kindy. 🌿

A big thank you to the Bunnings Virginia team for sharing their knowledge and helping us learn how to care for our worms while supporting the environment. 🌍💚

On Mabo Day, we remember Eddie Mabo and his fight for justice for Australia’s First Nations peoples. His courage helped change history.

Eddie Mabo showed us that understanding and respect can lead to a better future. We hope this day starts conversations at home and in community, helping our Jarjum learn about resilience, respect, and the incredible contributions of First Nations peoples.

Mabo Day marks the 1992 High Court decision that recognised Native Title in Australia, overturning terra nullius—the idea that no one lived here before European settlement and colonisation. Thanks to Eddie Mabo and others who stood up for what’s right, we move forward with greater knowledge and appreciation of First Nations histories. 🖤💛❤️ 💙🤍💚

Hey My Deadly Playgroup Families,

At this stage, playgroup is still going ahead tomorrow, Wednesday 27th May.

** We’ll aim to run it in the shed, if possible, but please note that parents will be responsible for supervising their children. **
However, with the weather we’re expecting this afternoon and tomorrow, that may change.
As Reconciliation Week approaches, this week’s activities will be dedicated to helping create art for the Sea of Hearts Movement and ways we can decorate the Playgroup Area.

Morning tea is provided, and we have transport available within our catchment area.

Keep an eye out on our page for each week's activities and contact Jess on 07 3265 7171 or 0452 081 477 for more information or to book transport.

🖤💛❤️ National Sorry Day- May 26th 2026 💚💙🤍

National Sorry Day is a solemn and significant day, marking the resilience and strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who have endured profound injustices. Recognising the Stolen Generations and their families is an essential step toward truth-telling and healing.

At Koobara, we stand in solidarity with our First Nations people. We acknowledge the strength of survivors, their families, and communities, and we commit to learning, listening, and supporting the journey of truth and healing.
