It’s National Volunteer Week and we’re saying thank you to all our Tasmania SES volunteers who assist us and the community.

Our Sorell SES Unit has had a busy year responding to storm events, assisting with road crash rescue support, and providing general emergency assistance in their local community.

They’ve also been out and about in the community, running and attending community events, visiting schools, and taking part in training exercises that strengthen how they work together when it matters most.

The unit has now celebrated three years since their establishment, and in that time, they’ve grown into a capable and reliable team, guided by unit managers with strong leadership, fresh direction and a positive culture.

The volunteers have consistently stepped up to support others, balancing commitments, with reliability and dedication and a shared aim of making a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Their presence in the community provides reassurance that there is a capable and trained team ready to assist when emergencies unfold.

If you’re considering joining Tasmania SES, the members absolutely encourage you to take the step. They say that volunteering with SES is incredibly rewarding and that you gain practical skills, build confidence, and form strong friendships with like-minded people. They say it gives you a real sense of purpose, knowing you’re making a difference when people need it most.

Sorell SES taking RCR training to the extreme! 🚗💥

This weekend we had the privilege of hosting a Southern Region Road Crash Rescue course, bringing together members from across the southern region for an introduction to Road Crash Rescue.

During the intensive hands-on weekend, crews were put to the test in multiple challenging scenarios, giving them the knowledge and skills they need to perform their roles safely in the real world. Training like this keeps our skills sharp so we’re ready to perform when it matters most. 💪

Massive congratulations to all the members on the course for doing such an amazing job across the weekend when faced with the challenging, complex scenarios. 👏

Real vehicles are essential for this type of training. Without them, we simply can’t continue to train new members or build and improve our rescue capability. 🛠️🚗

Got an old car in the Sorell area taking up space?
Have you considered donating it for Road Crash Rescue training?
Every vehicle that’s donated helps us improve our skills.
We can arrange free collection, just send us a message to get started!
