As dawn breaks across Australia on April 25; in almost every City town and village, a service is held commemorating the Gallipoli landings in WWI. Perhaps uniquely we choose to honour a 'glorious defeat' when remembering our war dead, and those of our heroic enemy 'Johnny Turk' defending his homeland. The ANZAC spirit endures and is a big part of what makes us Australian.

With a heavy heart I must advise that effective 1 July 2012 we will cease touring operations. I have completed over 2500 tours to KarluKarlu/Devils Marbles in the last 13 years and enjoyed everyone but regrettably the current economic climate means that we can no longer continue. We don't get Crocs down here but this is impressive enough to link to. Parks & Wildlife Rangers caught a 4.5m croc that had been eating local dogs

Fires have been burning across the Barkly for quite a few weeks.

Some of the fires are management fires clearing heavy fuel loads, some lit by traditional owners for hunting (now and future seasons) others are arson and one or two lit by birds. Kites in particular have been recorded taking glowing embers from a glowing fire to start a new one.

Fires throughout Winter with low temperatures and some moisture are almost entirely positive. Those burning now can be a lilttle damaging while Summer fires are a lot more risky.

As you may notice local traffic doesn't take a lot of notice of the fires - it is VERY rare to close major roads for fire.

Our resident Dingo - several others visit most nights but this guy is around all the time. He likes watching people. I think we amuse him!
