As dawn breaks across Australia on April 25; in almost every City town and village, a service is held commemorating the Gallipoli landings in WWI. Perhaps uniquely we choose to honour a 'glorious defeat' when remembering our war dead, and those of our heroic enemy 'Johnny Turk' defending his homeland. The ANZAC spirit endures and is a big part of what makes us Australian.
