It’s ironic her profile was written by Julia Gillard - the architect of the NDIS - the biggest taxpayer rort of all.

“Communications Minister Anika Wells has been named one of the world's most influential rising stars by TIME magazine after spearheading the Albanese government's social media ban for under-16s - despite facing criticism from Aussies for racking up a $90,000 taxpayer-funded trip to New York to promote the policy.

The international recognition comes as Wells remains under scrutiny over her use of ministerial travel perks and taxpayer-funded expenses.

Critics have argued that some of Wells' travel expenses, including trips involving her lobbyist husband, do not pass the pub test.

Wells' profile in the list was written by former Prime Minister Julia Gillard, who hailed the Labor minister as a leading figure in the international push to rein in the power of social media companies and better protect children online.”

“Anthony Albanese has unveiled another industry bailout package, this time for Tasmania's Bell Bay aluminum smelter, worth $200m and jointly funded with the state government.

The Rio-Tinto owned smelter has been locked in protracted negotiations with the state-owned power company Hydro Tasmania over a new power deal for the facility.

This marks the third bailout for Australian smelters this year, following a $2.5bn funding commitment for the Tomago facility in NSW and a $2bn agreement with the Boyne smelter in Queensland.”
