A Roof Over Heads
Our aim : Permanent, 24/7 supported housing for people with an ongoing serious mental health illness in Hobart.
Our group : Hobart Hamlet Association Tasmania Inc was formed in 2011 by a group of parents with a deep understanding of the impact of mental illness on the individual, family and local community.
The proposal : A Hamlet development aims to provide independent long term supported accommodation for 14 people aged over 18 years, diagnosed with psychosocial mental illness, primarily schizophrenia. The target residents will have a severe and enduring mental illness and associated level of disability that results in the need for long term support to maintain their accommodation and inclusion in the community. The proposal is founded on the proven and innovative Haven Foundation model currently operating in South Yarra in Victoria since 2011 and also in Frankston in 2019 . The Haven Model is built on three key pillars, all working in collaboration for the benefit of the residents: • The Haven Foundation providing overarching governance, along with property and tenancy management services • A Service Provider, delivering 24/7 support services to residents • The Hobart Hamlet as the nucleus for coordinating the important support of parents and carers
