💔 Devastating Loss Bulahdelah Fire Tragedy

It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that we share devastating news from the frontline of the Bulahdelah fire on the Mid North Coast.

We regret to report the loss of a brave firefighter from the NSW Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), who was killed overnight while on duty protecting our community and environment. The firefighter was tragically struck by a fallen tree while operating on the fire scene.

Our deepest and most sincere condolences go out to the firefighter's family, friends, colleagues, and all loved ones. As partners working alongside the NPWS, this loss is absolutely devastating to our entire team.

This tragedy serves as a solemn reminder of the extreme sacrifices and dangers faced by all emergency service personnel during these challenging times.

Please keep the family and the entire NPWS community in your thoughts.

🚒Over the weekend, the Lake Munmorah RFS crew was kept incredibly busy, responding to and protecting both our local and neighboring communities.

- Our Weekend Summary

🔥Friday: Our crew attended the Milsons fire.

🔥 Saturday (Day): We responded to Koolewong (currently being controlled). We were confronted with a fire that was incredibly intense and devastating to see right before Christmas.

🔥Saturday (Night): We were also responded to Redhead (currently being controlled). On arrival, we found a very large fire that kept us working hard most of the night.

🚨 A Very Kindly Reminder

These recent events serve as a serious reminder: Now is the time to prepare.

Have your property prepared
-Clear gutters, move flammable materials away from your home, and ensure easy access for fire fighting.

Have a Bushfire Survival Plan in place
-Know what you will do if a fire impacts your property, whether you plan to stay and defend or leave early.

Your preparedness saves lives and helps our crews protect the community.

The Lake Munmorah RFS brigade would like to sincerely thank the community for your kind words and welfare during this challenging time. Your support means the world to us.

🚨 Watch and Act – Koolewong Area 🚨

Lake Munmorah 1 and Lake Munmorah pumper are currently on scene at a Watch and Act–level bush fire in the Koolewong area.

Fires in these conditions can be fast-moving, unpredictable, and change rapidly, so this is an important reminder to review your Bush Fire Survival Plan and stay prepared during the hot, dry and windy weather.

Please remember to give way to all emergency services and remain alert to changing conditions.

Stay safe, everyone.

What’s causing all this smoke?

The smoke over the Central Coast and Lake Macquarie is coming from the large Milsons Gully bushfire near Denman in the Upper Hunter.

A wind change this afternoon pushed the smoke toward our area, and as temperatures dropped this evening, the smoke settled closer to the ground.

Although the fire is more than two hours away, wildfire smoke can easily travel hundreds of kilometres under the right wind conditions, so the smell and haze here are expected.

The NSW Rural Fire Service and Fire Rescue NSW has received a number of 000 calls for smoke this evening, so please only call 000 if you can see an unattended fire.

Below is the smoke plume from the Milsons Gully Fire at 6pm.
