🔥 THE AUSTRALIAN TODAY 🔥

🗞”University student unions should be allowed to choose which organisations are permitted to hold stalls at campus orientation weeks without ministerial intervention or threats of funding withdrawal, the national union of students chief says.

Zoe Ranganathan slammed Education Minister Alan Tudge after he said he would consider stripping funding from campus organisations that tried to stop the promotion of views they opposed, and proposed to extend a free-speech code for academics to student unions.

“When it comes to what individual students and student unions decide to promote … on their own campuses, that is a matter for those individual students,” the 21-year-old said. “There is no reason why a minister should be intervening … in the campus politics of the time just due to an ideological difference.”

From the racial vilification of immigrants to its role in underpinning native title rights in the Mabo decision, the Racial Discrimination Act has been vital in supporting Australia's multiculturalism and Labor will always fight to protect it.

Congratulations Chris Minns !!

I am deeply humbled to be elected leader of the NSW Parliamentary Party

Now the hard work begins.

Now I have to go out and change Labor, so we can focus on the future and offer a positive vision of what is possible in this State.

I will not play politics in a pandemic. But I also believe the next election will be about the kind of future we build after the pandemic is over.

NSW Labor stands for economic opportunities and improving the quality of life for working families.

The bad thing: private companies have no business running our welfare system. It should be about helping people, not making profit.

The good thing: this week Federal Labor announced that it would be scrapping the the private cashless welfare system (Indue Card).

It is with great sadness that I have resigned from the position of Deputy Leader of the Opposition and my shadow ministerial positions.

I thank Jodi McKay for the honour of serving in her Shadow Cabinet.

I remain committed to staying in parliament and working for a Labor win in 2023. Here is my letter.
