On behalf of Mackay Conservation Group, EDO NSW has launched court proceedings against the Australian Environment Minister and mining company Adani Mining Pty Ltd over the federal approval of the Carmichael coal mine in central Queensland.

The Carmichael coal mine will be the largest coal mine in Australia. The case challenges the approval on the grounds that the Minister failed to take into account the impacts of greenhouse gas emissions produced by burning coal from the mine as required by federal environmental law. Coal extracted from Carmichael is intended to be exported from Abbot Point: http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/jan/14/federal-court-asked-to-overturn-adani-mine-approval-impact-great-barrier-reef
