It's that time of year we prepare evidence for the "independent" regulator. So once again, just combing through all the eye-watering sums of taxpayer funds which have been afforded this minority choice of "recreation". Time to make a saving

The petition of certain citizens of the State of Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Council the issue of fireworks and the damage they cause to people, companion animals, wildlife and the natural environment.

Not property
Not ‘stock’
Not ‘it’
Not something
You are an individual
You are a being
You are your own
You are someone.

Once again it’s ‘that time of year’ where we see many different species of baby birds coming into the world, and as cute as they are, we should also know when or if we should actually touch them depending on what is happening in the nest or nearby.
This poster has some good information for anyone finding an apparently lost or injured bird and what we should ideally be doing.

Attention ghouls and boys! 👻 As we get ready to celebrate the spooky season in Lane Cove, please avoid using synthetic spider webs when decorating your home. It can be very harmful for wildlife, especially birds. Birds often use spider silk to build their nests and cannot tell the difference between real and fake webbing. This can result in birds and their young becoming stuck in the webbing. Bats, insects and other wildlife can also become stuck in this material.

If you’re looking for ways to decorate, consider reusing or repurposing items you already have at home. Ideas include cardboard graveyards that can be recycled, or pumpkins that can be put in your compost. 🎃

The Victorian Government has made the decision to continue to allow the cruel killing trapping and poisoning of ‘protected’ dingoes in the state to appease the false claims of the animal agriculture industry.

It means this threatened species can continue to be killed on private land, and public land within 3km of any private land boundary in the state.

Why? Because the wool and lamb industries blame dingoes for sheep deaths, when their own research shows that almost all lamb deaths are the result of farm management practices, not predation by a threatened native species.

We are determined to challenge this unprotection order for dingoes and we’re exploring potential legal interventions in order to hold the government to account.

In the meantime, please speak up for dingoes by sending the government a message to let them know that this decision is unacceptable, and stay ready to take further action soon: https://animalsaus.co/46wnYbH

During summer last year Wildlife Victoria found nearly 300 cases of wildlife caught in domestic fruit tree netting.
We amended the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act to make dangerous netting illegal and it's finally coming into effect.

Backyard fruit growers across Victoria have less than a week to update their netting or risk "significant" penalties for breaching wildlife protection laws.

Imagine flying for five days straight, arriving at your destination emaciated and exhausted, only to find your habitat has disappeared. Such is the plight of the Latham’s Snipe.
