📢 Important Update: Changes to Indigo Junction's Emergency Relief Service

Please note that Indigo Junction's Emergency Relief service is now available by appointment only.

To book an appointment, please call 9274 7929.

Eligibility criteria apply. We are currently able to provide Emergency Relief support to eligible community members who live within the:

• City of Swan
• Town of Bassendean
• Shire of Mundaring

When attending your appointment, please bring your valid concession card.

If you have any questions or are unsure whether you're eligible, please don't hesitate to get in touch. Our team can discuss available support options with you.

We were delighted to recently welcome Tonya McCusker, Director of the McCusker Charitable Foundation, to Indigo Junction and share the vision for Yaakiny – a landmark initiative that will provide safe accommodation, wraparound support and pathways to independence for young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness across Western Australia.

Indigo Junction is now proud to announce the McCusker Charitable Foundation as a Principal Partner of Yaakiny, our new Housing First for Youth supported accommodation facility, following the Foundation’s generous contribution towards the project.

This transformational investment will help create a place where young people can find safety, stability and opportunity, providing not only a home, but the foundation to heal, grow and build a brighter future.

As one of the largest philanthropic contributions to the project, the McCusker Charitable Foundation’s generosity will have a lasting impact on the lives of vulnerable young people for years to come.

We are incredibly grateful for their partnership and shared commitment to ensuring every young person has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of the challenges they have faced.

Together, we are building more than a facility; we are creating opportunity, hope and lasting change for future generations.

Swan Rotary and Indigo Junction Partner to Support Young People

Indigo Junction is proud to announce a new partnership with Swan Rotary, bringing together two organisations committed to creating positive outcomes for young people and strengthening our local community.

Through this partnership, Swan Rotary is supporting Yaakiny, our upcoming Housing First for Youth supported accommodation facility, helping us continue to provide safe accommodation, practical support and pathways to independence for young people experiencing homelessness and hardship.

Their generous contribution will help create safe, welcoming spaces within Yaakiny upon opening, where young people can feel supported as they work towards a brighter future.

We are incredibly grateful for Swan Rotary's commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable young people.

For decades, Rotary has brought people together to create lasting change through local projects, volunteer efforts and community partnerships. The Rotary network supports a wide range of initiatives focused on youth development, education, health, wellbeing and social connection.

Help our community get counted this Census

Applications for Community Field Officer positions are currently open across Australia, including opportunities supporting people experiencing homelessness and communities across Midland and the City of Swan.

As a Community Field Officer, you'll provide in-person support to diverse communities and groups to help them complete their Census form.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics is particularly seeking people with experience working alongside diverse communities, including people experiencing homelessness, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people living with disability, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, and young and older Australians.

The 2021 Census was highly successful in Midland thanks to the involvement of local community members in these roles. We encourage anyone with relevant experience and a passion for supporting their community to consider applying.

💰 $34.11 per hour (inclusive of casual loading) plus superannuation

We’re pleased to share continued progress on the Yaakiny Youth development, alongside a new community partnership that will help create a safe and welcoming environment for young people entering the service.

Indigo Junction is proud to partner with Swan Rotary, whose generous support will assist in furnishing the accommodation with essential mattresses for young people accessing Yaakiny. This contribution reflects a shared commitment to strengthening community wellbeing and supporting vulnerable young people across the Midland and Swan regions.

Yaakiny will deliver 30 new and 6 refurbished units under a Housing First for Youth model, providing safe, stable housing for young people experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness. Residents will have access to 24/7 support services and tailored programs that build independent living skills, alongside connections to education, employment, health, and community networks.

Current construction milestones include:

• Site power connected by Western Power
• Lift installation complete (pending main power connection)
• External works nearing completion
• Internal works progressing across tiling, painting, and joinery
• Ground floor bathroom tiling completed
• Existing building walls and ceilings nearing completion, with painting commenced in April

This partnership highlights the meaningful impact community collaboration can have in creating positive outcomes for young people. Swan Rotary continues to play an important role in supporting local initiatives focused on homelessness, mental health, domestic violence, food security, and youth wellbeing.

We extend our sincere thanks to our major supporters, the Department of Housing and Works WA, Lotterywest, and Beyond Bank for their continued support in helping bring this vital project to life for the Midland community.

Last week, around 50 Indigo Junction staff members came together for Indi Day, a chance to connect, collaborate and reflect on the values that guide our work every day.

From team activities to meaningful conversations, the day highlighted the importance of connection across our organisation as we continue to grow.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to making the day such a success, and special thanks to local facilitator, Mike House, for his support and involvement throughout the event.

We’re already looking ahead to our next Indi Day as we continue creating opportunities for learning, connection and growth across our teams.

On Friday, we had the privilege of attending the launch of Stories of Midland and celebrating the incredible Maaman Bardip songwriting journey alongside the Moorditj Maaman Men’s Group and Strong Fathers at Karlup.

The event was a powerful reminder of the importance of storytelling, culture, music, and connection within the community. Hearing local men share their stories and perform original songs created through the project was both moving and inspiring.

Thank you to everyone who contributed their voices, experiences, and creativity to make the day so meaningful. It was an honour to come together in a space that celebrated strength, vulnerability, culture, and community spirit. ❤️

This special event will feature powerful stories from the book shared by local men, alongside group performances of original songs created through this meaningful project.

The doors are now open at Bindi Bindi Mia Refuge

Yesterday, alongside Minister Jessica Stojkovski MLA, we officially welcomed a new safe haven for women and children escaping family and domestic violence in Midland.

Funded by the WA Government, this purpose-built refuge will provide:
- Five crisis accommodation units for up to five women and their children
- Trauma-informed, wraparound support
- Advocacy, safety planning and pathways to support victim-survivors on their journey to recovery

But more than that, it offers something deeply important: time, safety, and space to heal.

To our incredible team - thank you. From preparing the space to sharing your knowledge and compassion, your unwavering belief in positive outcomes is what makes this work life changing.

Delivered by Indigo Junction, this refuge builds on more than 45 years of place-based support for people experiencing family and domestic violence and homelessness. We are also proud to operate the well-regarded Koolkuna Women's Refuge, continuing our commitment to safe, supportive pathways forward.
