ASLITA is deeply saddened to share the passing of Merie Spring.

Merie was life member of ASLITA, a founding member of ASLIA QLD and a pioneer in our community with over 40 years experience. Contributing to the development of interpreting services and professional standards, she was a highly respected community interpreter, interpreter trainer and mentor.

Merie’s contribution to the Deaf community, to the interpreting community, and to the industry is immeasurable. She had a passion for advocacy, justice, education and community. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, humility and her wisdom.

Merie’s passing will be felt throughout our community, especially by those who had the privilege of learning from Merie, being mentored by her and working alongside her.

Her legacy will live on in each of us as we strive to continue in her likeness and pass on her wisdom.

Our thoughts are with Merie’s family, friends and people in our community whose lives she touched.
