Community Recovery is proud to support the updated National Principles for Disaster Recovery, developed through collaboration between governments, recovery agencies and disaster-affected communities across Australia and New Zealand.

These principles reinforce the foundations of effective recovery: understanding local context, recognising complexity, working alongside communities, coordinating efforts, communicating effectively and building on community strengths and capacity.

These updated principles will continue to guide our planning, decision-making and delivery of recovery programs, ensuring we continue to support communities in ways that are responsive, inclusive and focused on long-term wellbeing and resilience.

We welcome this refreshed framework and commit to using and upholding these principles in our work with disaster-impacted communities.

Bushfire risk is rising across parts of Australia this spring. 🔥

Less rain, dry soils and increased fuel loads are creating heightened bushfire conditions in many areas.

The Spring 2026 Seasonal Bushfire Outlook from AFAC News is now available. 🚒

The outlook forecasts a higher risk of fire across:

🔸northern and southeastern New South Wales
🔸south-east Queensland
🔸northeastern Tasmania
🔸parts of Western Australia, South Australia, and Victoria
🔸large parts of the Northern Territory.

This is not a prediction of where and when bushfires might occur. Everyone is encouraged to be vigilant and stay alert, even in areas of Australia that show a normal risk this Higher Risk Weather Season. ⚠️

🏠 Maintain your property by regularly removing leaves from gutters, trimming trees, and keeping grass short.

📝 Create a bushfire survival plan for your household.

🥫 Update your household emergency kit, and evacuation bag. Ensure you have enough essential supplies for at least 3 days without power and water.

📻 Stay informed and ready. Download state emergency apps, monitor fire danger ratings, and regularly check in with your local ABC Radio broadcast.

You can learn more about the upcoming bushfire season, and what the Australian Government is doing to assist fire authorities at the link in the comments.
