πŸ“Έ What a wonderful evening we had on Friday at the Community Showcase of the Our Voice in Pictures Project!

Over the past 10 weeks, Village Hub members and other local community members have participated in photography workshops, learning about composition, lighting, and digital editing techniques. They then headed out into the community to capture images of the people, places, and stories that matter most to them.

The result was an inspiring exhibition that beautifully captured the many ways people find connection and belonging in Victoria Park.

Wendy shared how she found community at Kate Street Reserve, where people and their dogs gather daily. More than just a dog park, it has become a place where friendships are formed, birthdays are celebrated, and neighbours keep each other informed about what is happening in the community.

Gerry documented the beauty of Burswood Park and his concern about changes that threaten the landscape he loves. His story highlighted how community members have come together to advocate for the protection of this treasured local space.

Hillary's photographs reflected on the changing face of Victoria Park, exploring the disappearance of the traditional corner shop and the stories of old buildings being renovated, repurposed, or waiting for a new future.

Dale's project celebrated the Village Hub and Connect Victoria Park. She discovered that bringing a camera to events opened the door to conversations, friendships, and a deeper sense of belonging, and wanted to capture the impact of connection in our community.

The full range of stories is on display in the hall at the Village Hub.

A huge congratulations to all participants for sharing their stories, creativity, and unique perspectives. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped celebrate the power of photography to tell stories and strengthen community connections.

This project was proudly supported by a Town of Victoria Park Community Grant. We would like to sincerely thank Karen Vernon, Mayor of Victoria Park and Councillors Scott Ingram and Andra Biondi for joining us on Friday evening and helping us celebrate the achievements of our participants.

The word is out!

More homes are on the way for older women and seniors at risk of homelessness in Victoria Park.

Clark Court will provide 15 new units, offering safe, secure housing and greater peace of mind for some of our community's most vulnerable residents.

We enjoyed a fantastic evening at the Town of Victoria Park Volunteer Sundowner, at Baillie Hill where Connect Village Hub was honored with the award for volunteer community group/organisation for 2026. This distinction highlights the outstanding contributions of our many volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes and on the frontline, providing administrative support, cooking, leading groups, sharing expertise, and assisting peers, classes, and events. The Village Hub's warm atmosphere is a direct result of their selfless efforts. It was wonderful to celebrate this achievement with some of our representatives. Heartfelt congratulations to all of our volunteers.

What a milestone moment for Connect Victoria Park! πŸŽ‰

This morning we officially broke ground on Clark Court β€” our first community housing development in 37 years and a project that will provide 15 much-needed homes for older people experiencing housing insecurity, including women over 60 at risk of homelessness.

It was wonderful to celebrate alongside so many supporters, partners, staff, volunteers, and community members, including Zaneta Mascarenhas MP, John Carey, Hannah Beazley MLA, Hon Kate Doust MLC, Connect Victoria Park patron Ben Wyatt, representatives from Housing Australia, the Department of Housing and Works, Dale Alcock Projects, Connect Victoria Park Board, Staff and Supporters

Clark Court is named in honour of our long-serving Honorary Secretary Kay Clark, recognising her 26 years of dedication and service to Connect, alongside the contribution of her late husband John. We were so pleased to share this special day with Kay and her daughter.

This project has only been possible through collaboration, shared vision, and the belief that safe and affordable housing matters. Thank you to everyone who has helped us get to this point β€” we cannot wait to see Clark Court come to life. πŸ‘πŸ’›

A picture paints a thousand words! πŸ“Έ

Over the last few weeks, this group of Vic Park locals have been capturing images of what makes the Town meaningful to them β€” the small moments, nature, local spaces, culture, and a sense of belonging.

This project has also been about connection, sharing stories, and seeing our community through different and creative perspectives.

Our group has also been working hard to create a community showcase, coming the 5th of June, where these photographs and stories will be shared. Stay tuned!
