Outer East Foodshare is a registered charity working with Emergency Food Relief agencies in outer east Melbourne to improve access to fresh food for people in need.

𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝘂𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱?

Bring it to Outer East Foodshare! We'll make sure your extra fruit goes to people in our community who can use it. We're also grateful for other home grown donations when you have an abundance... so keep us in mind for your vegetables and herbs too!

Donations can be dropped off to our Hub (51 Templeton Street, Wantirna), Monday - Friday between 9.30am and 12.30pm.

𝙏𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙖 𝙥𝙚𝙚𝙠 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙤 𝙖 𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙙𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙚𝙚 𝙬𝙝𝙮 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙚 𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙨 𝙙𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙪𝙨.

We are often asked why food would be donated to us instead of sold to customers. Usually, the reasons are purely cosmetic - especially for food and vegetables. Produce declared the wrong size or shape or colour won't make it to the supermarket shelf.

If something is nearing it's best before date, retailers will replace it with fresher produce even if what's on the shelf is still safe for consumption.

We also receive donations of items that are not selling well, where there is an oversupply, or where packaging might be damaged... and we're happy to redistribute these with the help of our partner agencies. Less waste, less empty tummies... it's a win-win.

𝗧𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁, 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝗺𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀.

Winter is here and the cold nights have set in. Imagine the physical and mental toll of facing winter and not knowing when you will eat or how much you'll have.

That's a reality for too many people in our Knox, Maroondah and Yarra Ranges communities. OEF volunteers are working hard to collect food daily and get it out to our partners quickly. Here is Marilyn from OEF handing over a deliver to Alan from ADRA to support around 50 families.

We are proud to support ADRA in Wantirna, Ferntree Gully, Boronia and Warburton. When we save them time sourcing food, they can spend more time helping people and providing wrap around support.

𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝘂𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀!

Turning down an offer of donated food always hurts us, but this weekend we were unable to accept 400kilograms of chicken because our existing freezers were full.

This donation could have supported around 2000 meals for people going without this winter.

We have permission to install a walk-in freezer which would have solved this problem. All we need is the funds.

Do you know a business or individual who could help. Just three donors contributing $5000 each would cover the cost. Let's make this happen. All donations over $2 are tax deductible.

The long weekend doesn’t mean a break for our drivers!

While you settle in to watch the footy this afternoon, our drivers are still out and about. Even on public holidays, our donors still need their surplus produce collected, and people in our community still need access to food.

While some of our partner agencies may be closed for the public holiday, if you’re in need of support there are plenty of community pantries across Knox, Maroondah and Yarra Ranges which we’ll be helping to keep stocked.

𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒅𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒇𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝒈𝒐?

We work with 45 partners to get food to people in Knox, Yarra Ranges and Maroondah who are seeking emergency relief. Our volunteers prepared these care packs for a local social worker to distribute to isolated community members.

You can see they contain items such as long-life milk, noodles, tinned veggies, Vegemite, meal kits and a sweet treat.

With the support of Outer East Foodshare in sourcing food, we free up time for our partners to do what they do best - connecting people with the other supports they need.

💬 𝙏𝙖𝙘𝙠𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙞𝙜 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙨

Last month, OEF was invited to participate in the Victorian Food Policy Forum. It was inspiring to meet so many organisations with a shared mission to build a healthy and fair food system for everyone in Australia.

At Outer East Foodshare, we are kept busy everyday with providing immediate relief to people - but advocating for longer-term change is something we are passionate about. We will continue to speak up about the challenges facing our communities and the need for long-term change to break the cycle of food insecurity: 𝟏 𝐢𝐧 𝟓 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐬 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐨𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲.

Car racing fans at Historic Winton hear about Outer East Foodshare when a race is sponsored in our name! Even better when a BlendTV interview gives us chance to talk to race goers about the growing need for food support for working families. And we couldn't help making sure that surplus food from lunches went to people in need at Benalla.
