As the sitting Captain of a CFA volunteer brigade that boarders Brown Hill and Ballarat I would like to say this....
We are glad that FRV turn out to our calls even though we have never failed to turn out in years and we meet all our response times, we are very happy that our community are protected just in case we do fail and also because they have medical skills and equipment that we do not possess. Where we draw the line is FRV turning out their pumpers to car fires in the state forrest and grass and scrub fires in the state forrest and open paddocks with no access to articulated water and no sealed roads, where their appliances are not only inappropriate but are turned out instead of more appropriate appliances.

Have you checked your hay recently?

After recent rain, CFA crews have seen a spike in haystacks fires, responding to more than 30 incidents involving haystacks since summer began.

Last week CFA crews responded to a hayshed fire in the north west in McMillans where over 1,500 bales of hay were destroyed.

This serves as a timely reminder to monitor your haystacks, as one damp bale is enough to cause spontaneous combustion.

Today is a day of TOTAL FIRE BAN in Wimmera, Nth Central and Central Fireban Districts. No Fires are able to be lit in the Open Air from midnight to midnight. Make sure you have a fire plan in place and if you are planning on doing work outside today please visit www.cfa.vic.gov.au/can to make sure it is ok.

A very emotional read. Unfortunately the decisions this brigade and Captain had to make are not uncommon especially for rural brigades. :(

The volunteer brigade from Terip Terip went through "hell" and back, narrowly escaping death while fighting to save their own community and those nearby.
