🧡 A Fantastic Day at the 4WG Australian Air Force Cadets Annual Parade & Expo! ✈️🚨

What an incredible day for our VICSES Point Cook Unit at the 4WG Annual Parade & Expo, held today at RAAF Base Point Cook!

Our members had a fantastic opportunity to engage with Australian Air Force Cadets, their families and the wider Defence community, showcasing the important work VICSES volunteers do in supporting our communities during emergencies.

👏 One of the highlights was the genuine curiosity and enthusiasm shown by the cadets who visited our stall. They asked some fantastic questions about our roles, emergency response capabilities and what it takes to become a VICSES member. Many were particularly amazed to discover that we are all volunteers, dedicating our time to helping others!

🎤 Another proud moment for our Unit was being invited to participate in the event's Panel Interview alongside Ambulance Victoria and the Royal Flying Doctor Service. It was a privilege to share the stage with these respected organisations and provide cadets with insights into emergency services, volunteering and community service.

With this potentially being the final 4WG Annual Parade & Expo at RAAF Base Point Cook, today's event was particularly meaningful.

🙏 A huge thank you to the event organisers for inviting us, to the cadets for their enthusiasm and thoughtful questions, and especially to our Point Cook Unit members who volunteered their Sunday to proudly represent VICSES.

Events like these remind us why community engagement matters. Inspiring the next generation to serve their community is just as important as responding when our community needs us.

We felt it too 👀 If you felt the earthquake, stay calm, check for hazards, and be prepared for possible aftershocks.

🌧️ WET WEATHER RESPONSE UNDERWAY

Our volunteers are currently responding to multiple requests for assistance across Point Cook as the current weather system moves through our community.

Further rainfall and thunderstorms are possible, with locally heavy rainfall possible over the next 24-48 hour’s if thunderstorms develop.

While our crews are out responding, there are a few things you can do to help protect your home:

🏠 Check gutters, downpipes and drains are clear where safe to do so.

🪑 Secure loose outdoor items, including furniture, trampolines and other objects that may move during strong winds.

🌳 Stay clear of damaged trees, fallen branches and powerlines.

🌊 Never drive, walk or ride through floodwater. If it’s flooded, forget it.

📱 Stay informed. Monitor current warnings through the VicEmergency app and follow advice from emergency services.

Please do not place yourself at risk trying to undertake repairs during severe weather. Wait until conditions are safe.

Our volunteers remain ready to respond across Point Cook as conditions develop.

When we genuinely ask "R U OK?" and are prepared to listen to how someone is feeling, we can help them feel connected and supported, long before they’re in crisis.

The theme is, ‘Ask R U OK? Any Day’ because life happens every day. A lot can happen in a year, a month, a week. Whether it’s your friend, family member, colleague, partner, or teammate, the people you care about go through life’s ups and downs every day.

You don’t need to be an expert to reach out, just be willing to listen and provide support.

Today, we proudly acknowledge and celebrate the dedicated first responders who serve our communities with courage, compassion, and unwavering commitment.

From volunteers and staff at SES, CFA (Country Fire Authority), Ambulance Victoria, Victoria Police, Fire Rescue Victoria, Triple Zero Victoria, and Life Saving Victoria, these remarkable individuals stand ready every day to protect lives, property, and the wellbeing of others.

Behind every uniform is a person who willingly answers the call when others need help most. They respond to emergencies, natural disasters, accidents, and critical incidents—often in challenging and unpredictable circumstances—putting service above self to keep our communities safe.

Their professionalism, resilience, and sacrifice deserve our appreciation not only during emergencies but every day of the year.

🎉 Congratulations to our newest Safe Working At Heights (SWAHS) qualified members! 🎉

A huge congratulations to Mathy, Alvaro and Sajeesh on successfully completing their SWAHS training.

This specialist qualification strengthens the Point Cook Unit's ability to respond to Requests for Assistance (RFAs) from our community following storms, severe weather events and incidents involving water damage. By increasing the number of trained personnel within our Unit, we are better equipped to support our local community when help is needed most.

Their commitment to developing their skills and volunteering their time ensures we can continue providing a safe, effective and professional emergency response across our area.

Well done to all three members on this significant achievement and thank you for your ongoing dedication to serving the community.

Our Unit is incredibly proud to congratulate Marlana Betham on graduating from the 2026 Ready To Lead Program.

The Ready2Lead leadership program, delivered annually by Life Saving Victoria, selects and brings together women from across the Emergency Management sector, including VICSES, CFA, FRV, Ambulance Victoria, Parks Victoria, Life Saving Victoria, and Aquatic Industries, to develop and strengthen leadership, confidence, and capability in our community. As Emergency Management Victoria Commissioner Tim Wiebusch has said, it stands among the highest‑quality leadership programs in our sector. Marlana has now joined the alums.

Our Unit and our wider community are very lucky to have leaders like Marlana. We are very proud of you.
