August has been a relatively busy month for our volunteers - we've attended 21 incident calls along with regular maintenance and upkeep, plus participating in brigade and district training courses.

This past weekend, eight of our members including three instructors and three candidates participated in the live fire training component of the Structural Firefighter (SFF) course. With 15 candidates overall plus several others recertifying, it was a busy but rewarding weekend. Congratulations to those from our brigade and the wider NSW RFS - Hawkesbury District for their newly gained skills!

Monday the 31st also saw two of our members attend the Blaxlands Ridge East hazard reduction burn, assisting the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service and other RFS crews to implement the strategically important burn to the north of Blaxlands Ridge Road near Putty Road. With perfect weather conditions on the day, the burn was successful in reducing the bushfire risk ahead of this upcoming fire season.

On top of these more significant events for the brigade, in the past week our volunteers have responded to two grass fires, several pile burns, a tractor fire, two motor vehicle accidents and a significant oil spill from Windsor to Wilberforce. 🚒 Monday Night – Training Night | 24/08/2026 👍
Last night, Wilberforce Brigade members practised using some of our newly acquired equipment and techniques.

The session included setting up a horizontal standpipe (hydrant) and using pre-laid hose packs, which allow for quick and efficient hose deployment down narrow driveways, around properties and within buildings.

A big thank you to Deputy Captain Warwick for running the session, and to all the members who came along and got involved. 🚒👏

Our crew spent yesterday assisting National Parks and Wildlife Service with a hazard reduction burn in the Lower Portland area.

These burns are deliberately conducted at a low intensity, removing the ground fuels in strategic locations in order to prevent or slow down a bush fire, yet still allowing the local flora - much of which relies on fire to reproduce - to regenerate.

Today, Monday 27 July, your mobile devices, such as mobile phones, tablets and smart watches, may receive a test alert.
The test times across NSW are.
2:00 pm AEST
1:30 pm ACST (Broken Hill NSW)

The message will vibrate and include a loud, siren-like sound that lasts about 10 seconds.
If this could disrupt you or cause you or a loved one to feel unsafe, please turn off your mobile devices or switch them to aeroplane mode before the scheduled test time in your location, and leave them off for at least one hour.
As this is just a test, you don’t need to do anything, but in an actual disaster you should follow the alert instructions to keep yourself and others safe.
