Hillcrest Fire Brigade services the communities of Don Valley, Launching Place and Woori Yallock. We are 100% Volunteers.

Hillcrest Fire Brigade was established 22 November 2007 when former brigades of Launching Place and Woori Yallock voted to create a new brigade called Hillcrest. The brigade motto is "3 communities, 2 stations, 1 brigade" - 3 communities are Don Valley, Launching Place and Woori Yallock and our main station is at Woori Yallock and we have a satellite station at Don Valley.

🔥☀️ What a glorious August morning! With the Yarra Ranges Shire’s June/July burn-off restrictions now finished for 'Bushland' properties, you may be looking to take advantage of the weather and prepare your property for summer.

⚠️ However, it’s not a free-for-all — local burning-off laws and restrictions still apply, including restrictions on the days some residents can burn. Check the Yarra Ranges Council link below before lighting up.

If you’re planning to burn off in preparation for summer, please do it safely:
🌿 Keep your burn well away from surrounding and overhanging vegetation
💧 Have plenty of water and suitable tools ready to extinguish the fire if needed
👀 Never leave your burn-off unattended
🌬️ Check the weather and avoid burning in strong or changing winds
🚒 Make sure the fire is completely extinguished before leaving it

📞 Register your burn-off by calling 1800 668 511 if you’re planning to burn within the next two hours.

Evening community, Hillcrest is hosting the Hoddles Creek Juniors tonight and they are doing a search and rescue activity with smoke.

If you see smoke in or leaking out of the station between 6:30 and 9pm tonight please do not be alarmed.

The national AusAlert test happening around 2pm, this Monday, 27 July to check the system is operating correctly. However, it could make safety devices easier to find.

Once the system goes live later in the year, if it's not safe to receive AusAlerts on your hidden devices at any time, keep them turned off or on aeroplane mode until you need to use them.

‼️ This is what the AusAlert national test may look like on your phone.📱

On Monday 27 July at 2:00pm AEST, Australia will conduct a nationwide test of the new AusAlert warning system.

If you receive a test notification like the ones shown below, don't be alarmed – no action is required. The test is simply to make sure the system is working as expected.

AusAlert is an additional way emergency information can be delivered to your phone. It works alongside existing warning systems, including VicEmergency Watch and Act and Emergency Warning messages.

Knowing what to expect now means one less surprise on the day.

A national test of AusAlert is happening on Monday 27 July 2026 at around 2pm AEST. During the test, all compatible mobile devices in Australia will receive an alert at about the same time. ⚠️

The AusAlert national test will be a Critical Alert. This means you’ll receive it even if your device is on ‘silent’ or ‘do not disturb’. The alert may stay active for up to an hour.

📱 AᴜꜱAʟᴇʀᴛ ɴᴀᴛɪᴏɴᴀʟ ᴛᴇꜱᴛɪɴɢ 2:00ᴘᴍ AEST ᴏɴ Mᴏɴᴅᴀʏ 27 Jᴜʟʏ.

It doesn't replace them – it's another tool to help get critical information to the community quickly.

In the future, AusAlert may be used to send warnings for:

🦠 Public health emergencies
🧬 Biosecurity incidents
🚔 Security threats

While this is only a test, it's a good reminder to keep the VicEmergency app up to date and make sure your household knows what to do if an emergency warning is issued.

🚒 At Wednesday night's meeting, we marked our official 'changing of the guard' as Norm took over as Captain for the next two-year term.

👏 Elected at our brigade elections in April, Norm brings a wealth of experience, knowledge and commitment to the role. We look forward to his leadership as he guides Hillcrest Brigade into the future.

🤝 While stepping down as Captain, Colin isn't going far. We're pleased he'll remain on the Brigade Management Team, taking on the role of Treasurer.

❤️ As Captain, Colin led the brigade with dedication, integrity and a genuine commitment to serving and protecting all three of the communities we proudly support - Don Valley, Launching Place and Woori Yallock. His leadership, countless hours of service and unwavering commitment to both our members and our communities have left a lasting impact and strengthened our brigade into the future.

𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀! Are your young teens looking for something different? Something fun, challenging and rewarding?

The Hoddles Creek Fire Brigade - CFA Juniors program gives young people the opportunity to build confidence, make new friends and learn practical life skills in a safe, supportive and fun environment.

Young people from across the Yarra Valley come together to:
🔥 Learn practical firefighting skills
🤝 Build teamwork and leadership
🚑 Gain first aid and emergency awareness
🏕️ Take part in camps and exciting activities
😊 Make new friends and have plenty of fun along the way!

Training is held every second Monday from 7:00pm to 9:00pm, with sessions hosted by different CFA brigades across the Yarra Valley area.

Whether they're interested in becoming a firefighter one day or simply want to challenge themselves, learn new skills and make friends, CFA Juniors is a fantastic place to start.
