Thank you for teaching the kids some truly awesome skills. Your smiley face and fountain of knowledge will be greatly missed by all. You’ve made a lasting impact on our cadets, and we’re so grateful for the time, energy, and passion you’ve shared with them.
We wish you all the very best in your future endeavours and look forward to welcoming you back for future visits! πŸ‘πŸ”₯

πŸš’πŸ”₯ RFS Cadets Training Night Highlights πŸ”₯πŸš’
Last night our RFS Cadets had a fantastic and action-packed training session this week! The cadets were split into two groups to learn about essential firefighting equipment, focusing on rakehoes and knapsacks, building their knowledge and confidence with tools used on the fireground.
After the learning sessions, it was time for some fun teamwork activities πŸ’ͺ⚽
The cadets played a game of soccer β€” RFS style! Using a yoga ball, teams of two worked together with hoses and water to move the ball down the field and score goals.
They also completed a teamwork exercise manoeuvring the yoga ball in and out of witches hats, requiring communication, coordination, and cooperation β€” skills that are just as important as physical fitness in the NSW Rural Fire Service.
A great balance of learning, teamwork, and fun β€” well done to all our cadets for their enthusiasm and effort πŸ‘πŸ”₯

Tonight cadets did an exercise in communication, putting together a Lego kit, but with a twist, the person putting it together has to listen to the instructions from someone else over the radio.

We also had a birthday! So we had ice cream cake for dinner (don't tell Mum) πŸŽ‚πŸ˜‹

Our cadets attended the Yenda Metal Detecting Championships over the weekend.

They put on a demonstration that they had practiced hard for, had a go at some metal detecting and had great day out.

It was a good chance for them to get involved in the community and try something different!

Our cadets have been training their hose drills this week, in preparation for a demonstration at the medal detecting championships in Yenda on the weekend. Good luck guysπŸ’ͺ

A bit of history for you.

We’ve been doing a little bit of digging to find out when our brigade was formed, and we found these from 1939!
It looks like a public meeting was called to form the Yanco-Gogeldrie Bush Fire Brigade, followed shortly by the brigade being officially established.
In later articles it was referred to as the Yanco Bush Fire Brigade, but we couldn’t find anything explaining when or why that changed.
Yanco later merged with Wamoon in the 90s, becoming Yanco/Wamoon Rural Fire Brigade.

We'd love to hear from you if you have any other information or connections to tell us more, let us know below!

Tonight was a special one for our cadets, officially being presented with their uniforms.

It was great to have the Leeton Mayor there, along with Adam from Griffith FCC.
A proud moment for our cadets as they take another step in their journey with the RFS!

Over the weekend, Matt Murphy represented Yanco-Wamoon at the 2026 Young Member Leadership College in Dubbo.
Alongside 27 RFS members from across NSW, he built valuable leadership skills and connections that will benefit our brigades and communities πŸ‘
Great to see such passionate young members β€” the future of the RFS is in safe hands πŸš’πŸ”₯
