The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) is an institution of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) with responsibility for the coordination of emergency response and relief efforts to any of its 19 Participating States that request support for a disaster event. CDEMA also champions the Comprehensive Disaster Management (CDM) approach for a disaster resilient Caribbean. CDM addresses

all hazards, all phases of the disaster management continuum (mitigation, prevention, preparedness, response and recovery) and all sectors of society. Established since 1991, CDEMA is presently comprised of the following Participating States:
Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Commonwealth of the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, Republic of Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Suriname, Republic of Trinidad & Tobago, Turks & Caicos Islands and the Virgin Islands.

Are you a recent graduate or young professional( 21-30) looking to gain practical experience in disaster risk management and regional development?

The programme offers a 12 - 18 month placement at the CDEMA Coordinating Unit in Barbados, providing participants with the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals, contribute to regional initiatives, and develop valuable technical and professional skills.

CDEMA Deputy Executive Director, Lt. Col. Kester Craig, participated in the 2026 DHL GoHelp Conference and the launch of the DHL Academy of Humanitarian Logistics (DAHL) in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The event brought together humanitarian organizations, NGOs, United Nations agencies, governments, and private sector partners to explore the future of humanitarian action, with a strong emphasis on locally led approaches and community-centred solutions.

Lt. Col. Kester Craig delivered a presentation and engaged in discussions that identified areas of mutual interest and potential collaboration between CDEMA, DHL GoHelp, and DAHL. He also joined practitioners from across the humanitarian sector in shaping dialogue around strengthening logistics, partnerships, and disaster response capabilities.

CDEMA extends its appreciation to the DHL GoHelp team for hosting a collaborative and impactful event and looks forward to advancing the partnerships and opportunities identified during the conference.

🌍 Strengthening resilience across the Caribbean.

The CDEMA Building Resilience of the CARIFORUM States to Disaster Risks and Climate Change Impacts (BRICS) Programme convened its 7th Programme Steering Committee Meeting in Antigua and Barbuda under the 11th European Development Fund Caribbean Regional Indicative Programme.

As the BRICS Programme approaches its conclusion, regional stakeholders gathered to reflect on achievements, review progress, and identify opportunities to sustain and build upon the programme’s legacy. Among those in attendance were CDEMA Executive Director, Ms. Elizabeth Riley; CARIFORUM Director General, Ms. Alexis Downes-Amsterdam; European Union Representative, Ms. Virginie André; Minister of State in the Ministry of Social and Urban Transformation, Honourable Kiz Johnson; Permanent Secretary, Ms. Sarah Stuart; and Principal Assistant Secretary, Ms. Lottie Thompson.

The BRICS Programme has supported critical investments in disaster risk reduction, climate resilience, emergency management infrastructure, and community preparedness across the Caribbean. Discussions focused on ensuring that the programme’s gains continue to strengthen regional resilience and support safer, more prepared communities for years to come.
