An Appeal to the Students of Premier University and the People of Chittagong
Premier University Building 1 and Building 2 at Probortak Mor are not just buildings. They carry the history, contribution, and sacrifice of thousands of students, guardians, teachers, and well-wishers of Chittagong.
These buildings were established on land taken under a long-term rental/lease arrangement from Chittagong City Corporation. At that time, the university was built with a vision to provide quality education for the people of Chittagong, especially for students who needed affordable access to higher education.
During the previous waterlogging mitigation project, parts of the backside of these buildings were dismantled and later reconstructed/refurbished with major effort and financial cost. This was not done for anyone’s personal benefit. It was done to preserve the university’s facilities while cooperating with the city’s drainage and waterlogging solution.
Now we hear that the entire Building 1 and Building 2 may be dismantled for only around Tk 15 lakh. This raises serious questions.
Whose money was used to build, repair, and preserve these buildings?
Was it not the money of students and guardians?
Why were these buildings reconstructed with so much cost if they are now being handed over like scrap?
Who will benefit from removing these buildings?
Is there any plan to build shops or a commercial market there?
The students of Premier University deserve answers.
We also ask: if Premier University is being claimed as a City Corporation-controlled institution, then where is the government approval document showing that City Corporation had the authority to establish and operate a private university?
Premier University is a private university. A City Corporation executive alone cannot establish a private university without proper legal authority and approval. If anyone claims otherwise, let them show the documents publicly.
At the same time, tuition fees have increased, and students are suffering. If this was truly a government institution, why would students face such private-university-level fee pressure?
The dream of ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury was to make education accessible for the people of Chittagong. That dream must not be destroyed by mismanagement, political control, or commercial interest.
We request the students, guardians, teachers, alumni, journalists, and conscious citizens of Chittagong to raise peaceful, lawful, and united questions:
Why are Building 1 and Building 2 being dismantled?
Who approved it?
Where is the valuation report?
Where is the public tender?
Where is the legal document?
Who will benefit from this decision?
Why is students’ money being treated like scrap?
Premier University belongs to its students, its academic community, and the people of Chittagong — not to any individual, group, or political interest.
Let us raise our voice peacefully, lawfully, and strongly to protect the institution, protect transparency, and protect the future of education in Chittagong.
Save Premier University.
Save students’ money.
Save Chittagong’s educational heritage.
