Bangladesh State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam met with Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan during her first official visit to Singapore. Second Secretaries Dhanya and Zainab organised a Visa and Consular Sharing & Networking Session on 23rd July 2026. The session was the first of its kind organised by the High Commission of Singapore 🇸🇬. We had a good turnout amongst visa and consular colleagues from High Commissions and Embassies in Dhaka. SS Zainab shared our visa application process and how we maintain integrity and security in our system including through our network of authorised visa agents (AVAs). Visa & consular work is the bread & butter of our Mission’s work. It was the main reason we established a consulate in Dhaka in 1996, before it was upgraded to a High Commission in 2023. The event was an opportunity to network and share best practices in this core area of work for all Missions in Dhaka.

On 22 July, CDA Mitchel Lee attended a gala dinner in honour of medical volunteers from various countries including Singapore who performed cleft lip and palate surgeries for kids in Bangladesh. The medical mission was organised by Smile Asia in conjunction with SAJIDA Foundation, Government Employees Hospital and with the support of Dhaka Bank. 69 cleft surgical procedures were performed during the mission. Glad to see doctors from Singapore be part of this initiative.

Yesterday, CDA Mitchel Lee attended a remembrance event dedicated to survivors & victims of the Milestone School & College tragedy which occurred in July 2025. Dr. Zubaida Rahman, Spouse of Bangladesh PM Tarique Rahman and Vice-President of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation was the Chief Guest of the event. She presented certificates of appreciation to the members of the medical teams who came from overseas to support the emergency response. An 11 member medical team from led by Dr Chong Si Jack arrived within 24 hours of the air crash to treat victims. At the remembrance event, Dr Chong received the certificates on behalf of the Singapore team. Singapore offers our condolences to the victims at this time & stands ready to support Bangladesh’s health sector in the future.

Charge d’affaires Mitchel Lee met with Mahdi Amin, Adviser and Spokesperson of the Bangladesh Prime Minister’s Office this afternoon. Discussed cooperation in education and human resource development. Singapore welcomed sharing our experience in this sector particularly in vocational education. Lee also updated him on Singapore’s ongoing interests in the port and logistics sector, aviation sector including digitalisation of airport and other government services, intentions to conclude a bilateral Free Trade Agreement, carbon credits collaboration and capacity building for government officials. It was a constructive discussion. Looking forward to further interactions with the aim of deepening ties between Bangladesh and Singapore.

CDA Mitchel Lee called on Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Chowdhury recently. He shared with him Singapore’s ongoing cooperation in trade and investment including ongoing discussions for a bilateral FTA, our interest to develop the Bay Terminal in Chittagong and digital solutions for government services. Also shared our interest to collaborate in Bangladesh’s carbon market in accordance with Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. The discussion also went into other topics such as capacity building and people to people exchanges. We look forward to working closely with the Minister and his team to deepen ties between Bangladesh and Singapore.

If you qualify (see poster for details), do enter the Singapore High Commission’s “Bridging Horizons” art project. Six aspiring Bangladeshi emerging talents will be chosen to display their art works alongside works by well known Singaporean artists. The exhibition will be from 14-19 August 2026 at the Alliance Française in Dhaka. The exhibition is being curated with the help of renowned Bangladeshi artist and art Professor Harun ar Rashid Tutul.
