The TESDA Aurora 2nd TVET Forum and TVIs and Assessment Center Meeting took place on August 14, 2024, at the Azbahaen Agri -Tourism and Training Center in Baler, Aurora. This significant event, held in celebration of TESDAโs 30th Founding Anniversary, carried the theme "Continuing Legacy of Empowering Filipinos, Elevating Global Competence," reflecting a deep commitment to advancing technical vocational education and training (TVET) in the region.
The forum began with a warm welcome from Mr. Adriano Necesito, the owner of the Azbahaen Agri Tourism and Training Center. In his opening remarks, Mr. Necesito graciously welcomed all participants and guests, setting an inviting tone for the day's discussions.
Provincial Director Nomer M. Pascual of TESDA Aurora delivered the opening message, aligning with the theme of the event. Director Pascual emphasized the importance of an area-based, demand-driven TVET approach, which has become a cornerstone of the National Technical Education and Skills Development Plan (NTESDP) 2023 - 2028. He underscored the need for collaboration with National Government Agencies like the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to address key issues and opportunities within the TVET sector.
The forum featured valuable presentations from partner agencies. OIC Provincial Director Jelyn E. Abella discussed the programs and services of her agency, highlighting job priorities and skills demand for technical vocational skills in Aurora and neighboring provinces. Her presentation provided crucial insights into how these services are addressing local needs.
Director Aldrin M. Veneracion of DTI, along with his staff, focused on financing, marketing, and promotional services available for TVET graduates. His session offered practical information on how these services can support graduates in their career development and enhance their marketability.
In the afternoon, Mr. Jerome H. Lopez, Supervising TESDS of TESDA Aurora, presented updates on program registration, compliance audits, new issuances, available competency standards and training regulations, and scholarship. His discussion provided a comprehensive overview of ongoing improvements and regulatory changes impacting TVET.
Ms. Nerissa A. Barribal, TESD Specialist II of TESDA Aurora, presented the latest developments in competency assessment and certification. She detailed strategies for expanding the number of accredited assessors, guidelines for assessing senior high school students, the e-certification process, and updated assessment fees. Her insights were pivotal for understanding the evolving landscape of competency certification.
Mr. Jerome S. Guzman discussed the T2MIS and BSRS systems, focusing on their role in enhancing the efficiency of TVET scholarship monitoring and administration. Additionally, Ms. Barribal highlighted the upcoming programs of the Aurora Association of Technical Vocational Institutions (AATVI), including capability-building initiatives for TVIs, trainers, and assessors.
As the forum concluded, Director Pascual provided guidance on future directions for TVET in Aurora. He encouraged TVIs to continually improve their training centers, seek ways to implement regular programs beyond scholarships, and work towards achieving Class A classification as training institutions. Director Pascual also urged support for the Aurora delegates competing in the upcoming Philippine National Skills Competition, specifically in Beauty Therapy.
Ms. Estrella C. Buenaventura, President of the Aurora Association of Technical Vocational Institutions, delivered the closing message. She reiterated the importance of the forum in advancing TVET and underscored the collective effort required to ensure its success.
