This arrived today.

And no, we haven't accidentally opened a branch of Delhaize. 😂

This is dinner.

For 27 cats. 😳

Today’s delivery contains:

🐱 2 boxes of Sheba — 80 packets each
🐱 2 boxes of Felix — 44 packets each
🐱 4 boxes of Felix Fish in Jelly — 24 packets each
🐱 4 boxes of Felix Sensations — 24 packets each
🐱 5 x 800g bags of Purina dry food

And the grand total?

€195!

Sounds like a lot of food, doesn't it?

It is.

But here's the slightly terrifying bit…

It will only last us around 2–3 weeks. 😳

When people see a photo like this, it can be easy to think, “Wow, that's a lot of cat food!”

And it is.

But when you're caring for 27 cats, it disappears remarkably quickly.

Twenty-seven little mouths need feeding every single day. And that's before you factor in litter, flea and worm treatments, vaccinations, veterinary bills, medication, emergency treatment, heating, cleaning supplies and all the other costs that come with caring for a sanctuary full of cats.

And, of course, 27 cats have 27 opinions about dinner.

One likes fish.

One refuses fish.

One will only eat the food that the other cat is eating.

One will stare at you as if you've personally offended him because you've bought the wrong flavour.

And one of them will inevitably decide that the €195 worth of food you've just delivered is completely unacceptable…

…until you open a tin of something that costs 30 cents more. 😂

This is the reality of rescue.

It's not just rescuing a cat.

It's feeding them tomorrow.

And the next day.

And the day after that.

It's making sure they have somewhere safe to sleep, that they're healthy, that they're treated when they're ill, and that they never again have to worry about where their next meal is coming from.

We wouldn't change a single one of them.

But we can't do it without help.

If you'd like to support our 27 little food critics, every donation, bag of food, box of pouches or share of our page genuinely makes a difference. ❤️

Because €195 might buy one enormous mountain of cat food…

But in our house, apparently, it's just Thursday's shopping. 😂🐾

27 cats.
3 meals a day.
One lighter bank account.
Zero regrets.

Babs Cat was found on the street last
year. Our initial thought that she was a cat who had had a rough life proved to be the case. At the vet it was discovered that she was not sterilized, and had given birth just several weeks earlier.

As a 4-year-old (estimated age) unsterilized female, she would likely have spent her life constantly pregnant.

It soon transpired that not only was she unsterilized, she also had pyometra - a potentially fatal, and extremely painful womb infection.

Babs Cat had an emergency hysterectomy to save her life, and fortunately, with lots of love and care, she made a full recovery.
Babs Cat is just one of the rescues who has found her forever home with us, here at the sanctuary of Ollie's Place.
This is why we do what we do. This is what rescue means.

❤ You can help us keep all the cats here at Ollie's Place fed and happy by donating from our Amazon Wish List.

Sometimes, a breakthrough looks like a piece of chicken. 🐔❤️

Meet Floef and Moekie — two of five cats we rescued from an industrial park.

When they first came to us, they were terrified.

Not “a bit shy”.

Terrified.

Every movement was suspicious. Every noise was frightening. Every human hand was something to avoid.

And that’s something people sometimes misunderstand about rescue cats.

You can't simply put a frightened cat somewhere safe and expect it to suddenly understand that everything is okay.

Safety has to be learned.

It can take weeks, months — sometimes much longer — for a cat who has lived in survival mode to realise that humans can be trusted.

We’re still very careful with Floef. We have to move slowly, speak quietly and let her decide how close she wants us to be.

Moekie is getting there too.

But then something happened.

Chicken.

Apparently, chicken is the key to Floef and Moekie's hearts. 😂

They started taking pieces from my hand.

And honestly?

To someone looking at these photos, it might not look like much.

But for us, this is HUGE.

Because they're not just eating chicken.

They're making a choice.

They are choosing to come towards my hand.

They're choosing to take food from me rather than grabbing it and running.

They're choosing, for a few precious seconds, to trust.

And that's rehabilitation.

It's not always dramatic.

There isn't always a magical moment when a frightened cat suddenly becomes cuddly.

Sometimes progress is:

🐾 Staying in the room when a human walks in.
🐾 Not running away when you move.
🐾 Eating while you're nearby.
🐾 Taking food from your hand.
🐾 Looking at you and deciding you're safe.

And then, one day, you realise that the cat who once wouldn't come within ten feet of you is eating chicken from your fingers.

That's a breakthrough.

We still have a long way to go with Floef and Moekie. This isn't the end of their rehabilitation — it's the beginning of something much more important.

Trust.

And if chicken is the currency in which we have to buy it…

Well, we'd better put the kettle on and order a LOT of chicken. 😂❤️

There are five cats from this industrial park rescue.

These are just two of their stories.

Follow us and come along for the rest.

Because sometimes the most incredible rescue stories aren't about the cats who are already trusting.

They're about the ones who are still learning how. ❤️🐾

Jeff Jeff’s Gotcha Day! 🐾❤️

Seven years ago today, we finally caught this little thug. 😂

Jeff Jeff had been coming to us for food for several weeks, but he was terrified of people. We couldn’t get anywhere near him.

So we did what you have to do with a frightened stray: we waited.

Food. Patience. The same people. The same place. Every day.

Slowly, Jeff learned that we weren’t going to hurt him. Eventually, he let us stroke him.

And then came the easy bit…

Catching him. 😹

As you can see from his “before” photo, Jeff was a young, uncastrated male — and he was living the kind of life that puts male strays at serious risk.

Unneutered males are much more likely to roam, compete for territory and get into fights. Those fights can result in nasty wounds, abscesses and infections — and they can also spread diseases between cats.

Jeff was already showing the evidence.

Luckily, he let us catch him. His wounds were treated, he was castrated, and suddenly he had a rather different future ahead of him.

And just look at him now. ❤️

Today, Jeff Jeff is a complete sweetheart.

He sleeps with me at night.
He follows me around the house.
He watches me cook.
Basically, wherever I am… Jeff is there. 😂

My shadow. My little sidekick. My boy.

And that is the thing about rescue that people sometimes forget.

The frightened, filthy, fight-scarred cat you see today isn't necessarily the cat you're going to meet tomorrow.

Give them safety.
Give them time.
Give them veterinary care.
Give them a chance.

Sometimes, underneath all that fear, there’s a Jeff Jeff waiting to come out. ❤️

Seven years ago we caught him.
Seven years later, he’s still right by my side.

This is why we do what we do.

This is rescue. 🐾
