🇺🇬 Uganda Showcases Its Vision for a Sustainable Petroleum Future at the 11th Annual Oil & Gas Convention 2026

The Embassy of the Republic of Uganda in Bujumbura participated in the 11th Annual Oil & Gas Convention (OGC 2026) held in Kampala, under the theme "First Oil: Fulfilling the Promise, Forging the Future."

The Embassy also facilitated the participation of a delegation from Burundi's Ministry of Mineral Resources, Energy, Industry, Trade and Tourism, reaffirming the strong partnership between Uganda and Burundi in promoting regional cooperation in the energy and extractive sectors.

The Convention brought together government leaders, policymakers, industry experts, investors, development partners and private sector stakeholders to discuss Uganda's readiness for first oil and the strategies required to transform its petroleum resources into sustainable national prosperity.

With an estimated 1.65 billion recoverable barrels of crude oil in the Albertine Graben and flagship projects such as Tilenga, Kingfisher, and the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) progressing steadily, Uganda is laying the foundation for a modern petroleum industry that will drive industrialization, create jobs, attract investment and strengthen regional economic integration.

Throughout the Convention, one message stood out: Uganda's greatest opportunity lies not beneath the ground, but in the decisions it makes today. Prudent revenue management, local content development, strategic infrastructure investment, environmental stewardship and economic diversification will be the pillars of a successful petroleum sector.

As consistently emphasized by H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Uganda's oil resources are intended to finance the country's broader socio-economic transformation by supporting investments in agriculture, manufacturing, infrastructure, science, technology and innovation—ensuring that petroleum becomes a catalyst for sustainable and inclusive development.

The Embassy remains committed to promoting Uganda's investment opportunities, strengthening bilateral cooperation with Burundi, and supporting initiatives that advance regional integration, responsible resource management and shared prosperity.

Together, Uganda is not simply preparing for First Oil—it is preparing for a stronger, industrialized and more prosperous future.

**"Partnering with the Diaspora for Socio-Economic Transformation."**

The Convention reaffirmed the Government of Uganda's unwavering commitment to engaging its diaspora as strategic partners in national development and regional integration.

Hosted by **Maj. Gen. (Rtd.) 🇺🇬 The Diaspora: Uganda's Strategic Partner in National Development
At the Uganda Diaspora Convention in Bujumbura, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) laid out how Ugandans abroad are powering national transformation — far beyond remittances.
Key takeaways: 🌍 Uganda now sees its diaspora as development partners, driving Vision 2040 and the Tenfold Growth Strategy 🧠 MoFA is mapping diaspora skills in health, ICT, engineering, finance & research — and connecting that talent to local institutions 📑 A National Diaspora Policy is being finalized to structure investment, skills transfer & innovation 🛡️ Missions abroad continue to protect Ugandans through consular services, crisis response & migrant worker support 💼 Open sectors for diaspora investment: agriculture, manufacturing, tourism, ICT, oil & gas, renewable energy & real estate
💬 The diaspora is Uganda's largest non-debt source of foreign exchange — and together, government and diaspora can accelerate our nation's transformation.
📣 The call to action: Be ambassadors of Uganda. Invest at home. Champion our trade, tourism & innovation.
For God and My Country 🇺🇬

Ambassador Maj Gen (rtd) Matayo Kyaligonza welcomed the Ugandan Diaspora community in Burundi to the 2nd Ugandan Diaspora Convention at the Uganda Embassy — a home away from home.
He noted that a united diaspora is a powerful force for national development, family prosperity, and stronger Uganda–Burundi relations. These are the foundation blocks for the targeted tenfold growth of Uganda’s economy.
Through passport, national ID, registration, and immigration services, the Ugandan Diaspora community is being empowered to access opportunities and stay on the right side of the law.
He thanked the Governments of Uganda and Burundi, the Uganda Diaspora Association in Burundi, and all members of the diaspora who joined hands to create this opportunity for Ugandans.
For God and my Country.
