Tackling The Work Permit Legacy Issue in Grand Bahama Head On.
Foreign Affairs and Immigration Minister, Fred Mitchell, pictured center in photo standing, flanked by Minister of State for Immigration, Darron Pickstock on his left, and Attorney General, Wayne Munroe, right, said the government intends to sort the work permit issues related to major foreign investors in Grand Bahama. The top brass government team held meetings with stakeholders at the Office of The Prime Minister in Freeport today, 12th August 2026.
Mitchell, Munroe, and Pickstock all noted that while the government welcomes and appreciates the significant economic contribution of major foreign owned industrial entities like the Grand Bahama Shipyard, the Container Port and others, work permits should only be approved when qualified Bahamians are not available. According to Mitchell, as the follow-up meetings continue, all the facts and findings will be weighed for the best balanced results.
