📚 Urban Renewal Abaco Celebrates Literacy Week

As Literacy Week continues, Urban Renewal Center Manager Walesia Braynen and Community Relations Officer Reeshera Swain visited Cooper’s Town Primary School and Patrick Bethel High School on September 8, 2026, in recognition of Literacy Day.

The team spent time reading with Grade 1 students at Cooper’s Town Primary and Grade 7 students at Patrick Bethel High, encouraging them to embrace reading, strengthen their literacy skills and understand the important role education plays in their future.

Urban Renewal extends sincere thanks to the administrators, teachers and students of both schools for the warm welcome and for helping to make Literacy Week meaningful and engaging. 📖✨

On Thursday, September 10, 2026, the Bamboo Town Urban Renewal team, led by ASP Bridgette Strapp and assisted by Sgt. 2987 Sherman and PC 3101 Jenkins, joined organizations across The Bahamas 🇧🇸 in wearing orange in recognition of Su***de Prevention Day.

The initiative highlighted the importance of mental health awareness 🧠, compassion 🤝 and supporting persons who may be going through difficult times.

📚 ST. BARNABAS SUPPORTS LITERACY CELEBRATIONS*✨

On September 8, 2026, schools across The Bahamas celebrated literacy through special assemblies, reading activities, and engaging programs supported by the National Insurance Board and the Ministry of Education.

Team St. Barnabas joined the celebrations, visiting classrooms and reading with students from preschool through primary school. Special activities were also held at A.F. Adderley and St. Cecilia’s Primary School, helping to make literacy both meaningful and enjoyable for students. 📖💙

📚 MARATHON URBAN RENEWAL PROMOTES LITERACY AT CLARIDGE PRIMARY✨

On September 7, 2026, staff from the Marathon Urban Renewal Centre visited Claridge Primary School in support of literacy and reading.

The team joined a special assembly where Principal Ms. Williams highlighted the school’s “Drop Everything and Read Hour” initiative. Staff later read with students from the Special Education class and Grades 4, 5, and 6.

The visit was a meaningful opportunity to encourage a love for reading while strengthening the Centre’s relationship with the school. 📖💙

💪🏽 FREETOWN URBAN RENEWAL CENTRE SENIOR EXERCISE CLASS💖

On Monday, September 7, 2026, the Freetown Urban Renewal Centre welcomed its seniors back for their first exercise class following the break.

Despite the rainy weather, the seniors who attended were energetic, excited, and happy to reconnect. Light refreshments were prepared by Centre Manager Ms. Sirlyndrea Rolle, Community Representative Ms. R. Linden, and Ms. Butler.

Special thanks to Mr. Russell and Mr. Moncur for their continued support and dedication to the seniors. Ms. Rolle also celebrated her birthday with the group and introduced Ms. Linden to the Freetown Precious Pearls. 🎂💕

💗 FOX HILL URBAN RENEWAL GIRLS CLUB IS BACK!🌸✨

Fox Hill Urban Renewal’s Girls Club has resumed following the long summer break, bringing the girls back together for another season of learning, growth and sisterhood. 💕👭

During the first meeting, the girls discussed personal hygiene and the importance of properly caring for their bodies. 🧼🛁 They were also shown practical ways to maintain good hygiene and prepare themselves to confidently start each day.

Receiving their special care packages brought plenty of smiles and excitement. 🎁💖 The girls expressed their appreciation for the thoughtful gesture.

BAIN AND GRANTS TOWN BREAKFAST GIVEAWAY

On Monday, September 7, 2026, staff of the Bain and Grants Town Urban Renewal Center, led by Center Manager Alecia Turnquest, hosted a successful breakfast giveaway for schoolchildren, parents and senior citizens.
Joining the initiative were ASP Freddie Lightbourne, Inspector Dean, Officer Green, Community Representative Margo Adderley, Bishop Sam Pinder and Veronica.

Residents received breakfast, drinks, clothing, shoes and other essential items. The well-attended outreach reflected the Center’s continued commitment to supporting families throughout the Bain and Grants Town community.

URBAN RENEWAL POLICE WEEKLY MEETING🚨

On Monday, September 7, 2026, Centerville Urban Renewal hosted the Urban Renewal Police Weekly Meeting, attended by officers from various Urban Renewal Centres.

Dr. Eric Fox of the Urban Renewal Counseling Unit spoke on anger management and conflict resolution, while ASP Kendra Whyms addressed domestic violence and recognizing signs of abuse.

Chief Superintendent Darvy Pratt emphasized the importance of properly documenting domestic violence reports.

Centerville staff members present were Center Manager Mrs. Joan Ferguson, Community Representatives Rochelle Johnson, Teshia Reid and Chrystal Love, and Program Coordinator Tewisha Fernander.
