The Yamacraw Urban Renewal Centre, under the leadership of Centre Manager Stephanie Crawley and her dedicated staff,
were hard at work sorting and preparing clothing donations, ensuring every item is ready to bring comfort and hope to those in need. Their efforts form part of the Ministry of Urban Renewal and Community Relations’ ongoing commitment to standing with our fellow Bahamians during this difficult time.

Recovery does not happen overnight, and neither does compassion. As the relief effort continues, we remain united in service, committed to helping the people of Bimini rebuild with dignity, strength, and hope.

SPECIAL PROJECTS UNIT & MIN OF WORKS IS ON THE GROUNDS IN ELIZABETH & YAMACRAW!

The Ministry of Urban Renewal and Community Relations’ Special Projects Unit, under the leadership of Director of Special Projects Trevor Siefort, continued Day 2 of its accessibility assessment initiative alongside the Ministry of Works, visiting homes in the Elizabeth and Yamacraw communities.

With assessments now completed in Englerston, Centreville, Elizabeth, and Yamacraw, the team will continue to identify homes throughout New Providence, Grand Bahama and the Family Islands that require wheelchair ramps, safer points of entry and exit, and bathroom accessibility upgrades to better serve persons with disabilities.

Every assessment brings us one step closer to removing barriers, restoring dignity, and creating communities where every Bahamian has the opportunity to live safely and independently.

💙 Carmichael Urban Renewal Centre Supports National Clothing Drive for Bimini Fire Victims

The Carmichael Urban Renewal Centre, under the leadership of Centre Manager Shantell Butler, proudly participated in the Ministry of Urban Renewal & Community Relations' National Clothing Drive to support families affected by the devastating fire in Bimini.

Thanks to the generosity of the Carmichael community, clothing donations were collected to help provide much-needed relief to those who lost their homes and belongings. We sincerely thank everyone who contributed and demonstrated the true spirit of compassion, kindness, and community.

Together, we continue to bring hope and support to those in need. 💙

Day 2 is underway as delegates from around the world reconvene at United Nations Headquarters for the High-Level Meeting on the Midterm Review of the New Urban Agenda. Today's discussions continue to focus on advancing inclusive, resilient, and sustainable cities and communities through strengthened international cooperation.

🌍🇧🇸 People First. Communities First. The Bahamas First.

Today, the Hon. Lisa T. Rahming, Minister of Urban Renewal and Community Relations, represented the Commonwealth of The Bahamas at the United Nations High-Level Meeting on the Midterm Review of the New Urban Agenda.

The meeting brought together Member States to review progress on the New Urban Agenda, share solutions to urban challenges, and strengthen global commitments to building more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable communities.

On behalf of The Bahamas, Minister Rahming delivered the country's National Statement, highlighting our progress in urban renewal, housing, community development, and people-centred initiatives.

The meeting concluded with the adoption of the Political Declaration, with The Bahamas joining 148 Member States in voting in favour, reaffirming our commitment to sustainable urban development and stronger communities.

Minister Rahming was accompanied by Permanent Secretary Montez Williams, Managing Director Stephen Dean, Advisor Sharon Martin, and Minister's Attaché Christine Sherman, who participated in technical discussions and bilateral engagements that support the Ministry's work and strengthen international cooperation.

🏃🏽‍♀️🏃🏽‍♂️ Summer Camp Day 3 – Sports Day was a fantastic success at Centerville Urban Renewal! 🎉

Campers enjoyed an exciting day of relay races, sack races, tennis ball races, and girls vs. boys competitions, promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy living.

A special thank you to Mr. Russell for leading the warm-up session, Retired Sergeant Miller for preparing a delicious hot lunch, and Mrs. Joan Ferguson and Ms. Tewisha Fernander for serving a hearty breakfast to kick-start the day.

We also extend our appreciation to our Community Representatives Rochelle Johnson, Chrystal Love, and Teshia Reid; volunteers Ms. Clarke, Ms. Chipman, and Mrs. Smith; and student volunteers Ms. Rolle and Ms. Hamilton for helping make Sports Day a memorable one.

Ministry of Urban Renewal and Community Relations Partners with Ministry of Works to Improve Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities

The Ministry of Urban Renewal and Community Relations, in partnership with the Ministry of Works, has commenced a series of home accessibility assessments for persons with disabilities across New Providence, beginning in the Englerston , Centerville Constituencies

The assessment programme continues tomorrow in the Elizabeth and Yamacraw Urban Renewal communities, where additional home visits are scheduled as the Ministry expands this important initiative to reach more residents in need of accessibility improvements.

The joint assessment team visited residents to evaluate the accessibility of their homes and identify improvements that will enhance their safety, independence, and quality of life. Assessments focused on the installation of wheelchair ramps, improving ease of entry and exit, and upgrading bathroom accessibility to better meet each resident’s individual needs.

During the visits, ministry officials met directly with residents, conducted on-site measurements, documented accessibility needs, and gathered the information required to facilitate future improvement works.

This initiative reflects the Government’s continued commitment to creating more inclusive communities by ensuring that persons with disabilities can live with greater dignity, independence, and accessibility.
