A **heat wave is expected to begin on Friday**, with **Excessive Heat Index** conditions forecast for the northern islands of The Bahamas, including:

📍 New Providence
📍 Grand Bahama
📍 Abaco
📍 Bimini
📍 Berry Islands
📍 Andros
📍 Eleuthera

These conditions mean that the combination of high temperatures and humidity could make it feel significantly hotter, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses such as dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.

Stay safe by:
💧 Drinking plenty of water throughout the day
🏠 Seeking cool or air-conditioned spaces whenever possible
☀️ Limiting strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest hours
👒 Wearing lightweight, light-coloured clothing and sun protection

A significant heat wave is expected to begin on Friday across all islands of The Bahamas and the Turks & Caicos Islands, with conditions forecasted to reach the Excessive Heat Index range. This week our team is heading to San Salvador as we continue community townhalls and cooling center site inspections across the islands.

Residents are invited to join us Tuesday, March 10 at 6:00 PM at the Idell Jones Community Center for the San Salvador Climate Change & Health Townhall. Come learn about the health impacts of climate change, heat safety, and hear updates on the national Cooling Center Initiative designed to support communities during extreme heat events.
